San Francisco Giants Betting Preview

The Giants took on the Pittsburgh Pirates in their weekend series. San Francisco split the first pair in that set 3-0 (win) and 4-3 (loss). In the Sunday rubber match the Giants took the series with a 3-2 victory. San Francisco got one RBI each from LaMonte Wade, Thairo Estrada (solo homer) and Mike Yastrzemski (two hits; solo homer) in the game three win.

For the starting pitcher job in the Tuesday opener, the Giants will send out Logan Webb. This year over his six starts Webb is 3-1 with a 2.33 ERA and 26 strikeouts over 38.2 innings. Webb has a career record of 45-33 with a 3.34 ERA in 119 games (116 starts).

Over on the Red Sox’ side, they played the Chicago Cubs over the weekend. Boston lost the Friday game 7-1, then stormed back for a 17-0 blowout win in game two. On Sunday the Red Sox took the series with a 5-4 victory. Jarren Duran (run) and Connor Wong (two hits) each contributed a pair of RBI in the win.

It’ll be Cooper Criswell in the starting pitcher role for the Red Sox on Tuesday. This year over his three games (two starts) Criswell is 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA and seven Ks in 11.1 innings. Criswell has a career record of 2-3 with a 5.14 ERA in 15 games (four starts).

San Francisco Giants vs Boston Red Sox Prediction

I’ll stay with the Giants. Webb has been looking good lately and should pitch well here if he can keep the run going. Over his last three starts combined, Webb is 3-0 with just one earned run in 22.0 innings on 14 hits and three walks. As for Criswell, he’s 1-1 over his last trio with three earned in 11.1 innings of work total.

In their Sunday win, the Giants didn’t quite spread out their offensive production. Two players had multiple hits, while the combination of Michael Conforto, Patrick Bailey and Jorge Soler went 0-for-10. San Francisco was only able to score in the one inning, but the pitching kept them in the game. I’d like to see a more balanced offensive effort here behind Webb, but the Giants should have a good shot at another W.
