The Cardinals played the Arizona Diamondbacks in their early-week series. St. Louis took a 14-1 blowout loss Tuesday but otherwise won the other two outings for a series victory. The Cardinals continued with a 4-2 win over the Mets Friday, then in game two St. Louis scored four runs in the first inning on the way to a 7-4 win. Sonny Gray went 6.0 innings in the start with one earned on four hits and three walks.

As a starter for the Sunday finale, the Cardinals will send out Lance Lynn. Over his five starts this year Lynn is 1-0 with a 2.81 ERA and 26 Ks in 25.2 innings. Lynn is 137-95 with a 3.72 ERA in his career over 346 games (322 starts). The Cardinals will face the Tigers following this series.

New York Mets Betting Preview

Over on the Mets’ side, they played the San Francisco Giants in their last set. The Mets lost the first pair but staved off the sweep with an 8-2 win on Wednesday. In the Saturday game two versus the Cardinals, New York scored four runs in the fifth inning but couldn’t cross the plate in any other frame. Adrian Houser had a rough start with his 4.1 innings, six earned runs, nine hits and two walks.

Jose Quintana will take the mound for the Mets in the Sunday finale. So far this year over five starts Quintana is 1-2 with a 4.21 ERA and 20 Ks in 25.2 innings. Quintana has a 93-95 career record with a 3.75 ERA in 333 games (307 starts).

St. Louis Cardinals vs New York Mets Prediction

I’ll probably stay with the Cardinals in this one. Lynn was a bit shaky at times in his last start versus the Diamondbacks, notching a no-decision with 5.0 innings, three earned, seven hits and three walks. In his two starts prior however, Lynn managed just one earned in 12.0 innings on six hits and five walks. As for Quintana, he’s coming off five earned in 5.0 frames versus the Giants on April 22 and could use a good bounce-back effort here.

On Saturday St. Louis got off to a quick start and really only had the one bad inning. Paul Goldschmidt posted two RBI, two hits and two runs in a pretty solid offensive evening all around. I think St. Louis takes another win in the finale.
