Houston Astros Betting Preview

The Astros took on the Chicago Cubs in their last series. Houston didn’t play very well in that one, taking a sweep with losses 7-2, 4-3 and 3-1. In the Saturday matchup versus Colorado, the Astros cruised to a blowout victory 12-4 thanks to 15 team hits. Yordan Alvarez notched two homers with three RBI in a 3-for-5 effort along the way.

In the Sunday starting pitcher role, the Astros will send out Framber Valdez. This year in his two starts without a decision, Valdez has a 2.19 ERA with 10 Ks in 12.1 innings. Valdez holds a 53-34 career record with a 3.38 ERA in 131 total games (109 starts).

Over on the Rockies’ side, they took a four-game split versus the San Diego Padres this week, winning Tuesday 7-4 and Thursday 10-9. On Saturday Colorado got two RBI and a homer from Ryan McMahon. Cal Quantrill lasted 5.0 innings with six earned on six hits and two walks.

It’ll be Austin Gomber in the starting pitcher slot for the Rockies on Sunday. This season so far Gomber is 0-1 with a 4.32 ERA in five starts. He’s got 20 Ks in 25.0 innings. Gomber holds a 30-29 career record with a 4.87 ERA in 131 games (87 starts).

Houston Astros vs Colorado Rockies Prediction

I’m going to stay with the Astros. I could probably go either way in this one, though. Valdez started out a little rough back on March 28 in his first outing. He posted three earned on five hits and six walks in 4.2 frames versus the Yankees. The good news is that Valdez notched 7.2 clean frames with six hits and no walks in his second start against the Blue Jays, but that was way back on April 2. Still, I like Valdez to notch a quality outing here and keep the Astros in the game.

On Saturday Houston posted a well-rounded offensive effort. Five different batters had multiple hits in a decisive win. The Astros should get off to a good start if Valdez is on point, and I think they’ll finish off the set with a victory.
