Oakland Athletics Betting Preview

The A’s had a rough series versus the Cleveland Guardians over the weekend, taking three straight losses 10-2, 6-3 and 6-2. Oakland was able to beat the Yankees 2-0 on Monday but then fell in a tough result 4-3 in game two. On Wednesday the Athletics could only manage four hits in a 7-3 loss. Joe Boyle took the loss with 3.0 innings, three hits, four walks and two earned runs.

In the starter role for the Thursday finale, the A’s are sending out Alex Wood. This year over his five starts so far Wood is 0-2 with a 7.89 ERA and 20 Ks in 21.2 innings. Wood is 76-67 with a 3.81 ERA in 274 career games (207 starts).

New York Yankees Betting Preview

Over on the Yankees’ side, they fell to the Tampa Bay Rays 2-0 on Saturday but otherwise took that series with wins 5-3 and 5-4 in the other two games. Following their split with the A’s over the first two games this week, on Wednesday New York got homers from Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto in the big win. Clarke Schmidt put up 5.1 innings in the start with three earned.

It’ll be Nestor Cortes’ turn in the rotation as starter on Thursday. So far this season Cortes is 1-1 with a 3.41 ERA over five starts. He’s got 28 strikeouts over 29.0 innings. Cortes holds a 25-12 career record with a 3.79 ERA in 109 games (61 starts). The Yankees will face the Brewers following this series.

Yankees RP Lou Trivino (Tommy John surgery) is about two weeks away from beginning live batting practice sessions. 3B Oswald Peraza (shoulder) is still weeks away from playing in minor-league games.

Oakland Athletics vs New York Yankees Prediction

I’ll stay with the Yankees here. The line's too thick to mess with, though. Cortes had a bit of trouble on April 14 versus the Guardians, posting four earned on five hits and a walk over 4.0 innings in a no-decision. In his last start versus the Rays however, Cortes was able to bounce back with 7.0 clean frames, six hits and no walks. As for Wood, he’s given up eight earned runs over his last 9.1 innings in two starts.

On Wednesday in game three, the Yankees offense posted a nice effort with 11 team hits. There were some fireworks in the sixth inning with three Oakland runs, but New York was able to withstand the onslaught nicely. I like the Yankees to keep it going Thursday.
