Boston Red Sox Betting Preview

The Red Sox played the Pittsburgh Pirates in their weekend series. Boston did well in that one, taking a three-game sweep with victories 8-1, 4-2 and 6-1 along the way. On Tuesday in the opener versus the Guardians, Boston had a brief 1-0 lead before falling 4-1 in a tough loss. Tanner Houck went 6.0 innings with two earned on five hits and three walks. Wilyer Abreu had a solo homer.

In the starting pitcher role for the Red Sox on Wednesday, it’ll be Cooper Criswell. In two games (one start) this year, Criswell is 0-1 with a 4.26 ERA and four Ks in 6.1 innings. Criswell is 1-3 with a 5.73 ERA in 14 career games (three starts).

Over on the Guardians’ side, they had a good series over the weekend as well. Cleveland managed a three-game sweep over the Oakland Athletics, bagging wins 10-2, 6-3 and 6-2. In the Tuesday matchup versus Boston, the Guardians got 6.1 innings with one earned run on five hits from starter Ben Lively.

Carlos Carrasco will take the mound for the starting pitcher role on Wednesday for Cleveland. Over his four starts this year Carrasco is 1-1 with a 3.44 ERA and 16 Ks in 18.1 innings. Carrasco has a career record of 108-94 with a 4.04 ERA in 307 games (260 starts).

Red Sox 1B Triston Casas (10-day IL) underwent an MRI for his injured rib on Monday. The results confirmed that he’ll be out for a significant time.

As for the Guardians, there aren’t a lot of new items to report. RP Sam Hentges (finger) began a rehab assignment with Double-A Akron on Friday, though.

Boston Red Sox vs Cleveland Guardians Prediction

I’ll lean toward the Guardians here. Carrasco should be able to set Cleveland up pretty well. In his last three starts combined, Carrasco has four earned in a total of 13.1 innings on 10 hits and 11 walks. He’s 1-1 in that time. Carrasco does need to get the BBs under control; he gave up five in 4.2 frames in a loss to the Yankees on April 13.

On Tuesday the Guardians didn’t get their offense going until late in the game but everything worked out well in the end. Jose Ramirez had a solo homer, and Will Brennan posted two hits with a run. I like Cleveland to keep the bats hot Wednesday.
