Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview

The Phillies played the Chicago White Sox over the weekend and managed a three-game sweep with wins 7-0, 9-5 and 8-2. On Monday versus the Reds, the Phillies bagged nine hits total and three runs in the top of the ninth inning during a shutout win 7-0. Kody Clemens had two hits, three RBI and a homer. Bryson Stott added two RBI and a run.

In the starter role for game two, the Phillies will send out Christopher Sanchez. This year in four starts Sanchez is 1-2 with a 2.53 ERA and 25 Ks in 21.1 innings. Sanchez is 7-9 with a 3.95 ERA in 45 games (26 starts).

Cincinnati Reds Betting Preview

Over on the Reds’ side, they also bagged a sweep over the weekend, theirs versus the Los Angeles Angels in three games. On Monday versus Philadelphia, Cincinnati managed just two hits in the loss. Hunter Greene put up 7.0 innings with seven hits, four earned, two walks and six Ks. Stuart Fairchild (1-for-4) and Christian Encarnacion-Strand (1-for-3) had the hits.

It’ll be Andrew Abbott in the starting pitcher role for the Reds on Tuesday. Across his four starts so far Abbott is 1-2 with a 2.70 ERA and 17 strikeouts over 23.1 innings. Abbott is 9-8 over his career with a 3.66 ERA in 25 starts. The Reds will meet the Rangers after this series.

Phillies vs Reds Injury News

We’ve got a few tidbits to mention on the injury front as this series gets going. Philadelphia’s Bryce Harper was placed on the paternity list on Monday. As for SP Taijuan Walker, he’s coming back from a shoulder injury. Walker struck out one and gave up four earned over 6.1 innings in his third rehab start back on Sunday.

As for the Reds, they were without 2B Jonathan India and RF Jake Fraley for Monday’s game due to illness. SP Frankie Montas is expected to miss his next start due to soreness and swelling in his forearm.

Cincinnati Reds Team Facts

  • The Reds have won six of their last seven games as underdogs against NL East opponents following a loss.
  • The favorites have covered the run line in each of the Reds' last 10 games.
  • The Reds have trailed after 7 innings in each of their last six Tuesday home games.
  • The Reds have trailed after 3 innings in each of their last three home games against National League opponents.

Philadelphia Phillies Team Facts

  • The Phillies have won each of their last six games after playing the previous day.
  • The Phillies have covered the run line in each of their last four games as favorites.
  • The Phillies have led after 7 innings in each of their last five night games.
  • The Phillies have led after 3 innings in each of their last six games against National League opponents.
  • The Phillies have led after 5 innings in each of their last five night games.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction

I’ll lean toward the Phillies in this one, but I could go either way. Sanchez has been on a nice run over his last two starts with just one earned over 12.0 innings. He’s only 1-1 in that time, though. As for Abbott, he’s given up five earned over his last 18.0 innings and only has a 1-2 record to show for it. Both guys will need some backup from the bats on Tuesday.

In the opener of this set, Philly got a great start from Ranger Suarez with 7.0 clean frames, two hits, one walk and five strikeouts. The offense did a nice job as well; three different players had multiple hits. I like Philadelphia to keep it going, but this one should be closer on the scoreboard. The Reds probably won’t stay idle for long.

Andrew’s Pick Philadelphia Phillies -106
