Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview

The Phillies are coming off a weekend series versus the Chicago White Sox. Philadelphia won the first pair in that set 7-0 and 9-5, then on Sunday Philly bagged 11 team hits in an 8-2 win for the sweep. Kyle Schwarber bagged three runs, three walks, two RBI and a homer while Alec Bohm had three hits and an RBI.

In the starter role for the Monday game, Philadelphia is sending out Ranger Suarez. This year in four starts Suarez is 3-0 with a 1.73 ERA and 27 Ks in 26.0 innings. Suarez is 32-21 in his MLB career with a 3.32 ERA in 138 games (70 starts).

Cincinnati Reds Betting Preview

Over on the Reds’ side, they played the Los Angeles Angels over the weekend. Cincinnati won 7-1 and 7-5 in the first pair. In the finale on Sunday the Reds bagged a 3-0 shutout win to complete the sweep. Christian Encarnacion-Strand finished with two RBI and a run, while Jeimer Candelario had two hits with an RBI of his own.

It’ll be Hunter Greene in the starter role for the Reds on Monday. Across his four starts this year Greene is 0-1 with a 4.35 ERA and 30 Ks in 20.2 innings. Greene has a career record of 9-21 with a 4.60 ERA over 50 starts.

Phillies vs Reds Prediction

I’ll lean toward the Reds. Greene needs to post a quality outing here, though. He was pretty shaky in a loss to the Brewers back on April 10, giving up six earned in 6.0 innings. Outside of that however, Greene has given up just two earned on seven hits and four walks in 10.0 innings during two of his last three starts.

On Sunday the Reds really only had the one big inning on offense, but it was enough when paired with a clutch pitching performance across the board. (Starter Frankie Montas went down early with a forearm injury. He’s bruised up, but his X-rays were negative.) Greene will likely need to go five or six innings to take some pressure off the pen, but Cincinnati should still be in good shape.
