The San Diego Padres will host the Toronto Blue Jays for their interleague series finale this Sunday from Petco Park. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Blue Jays vs Padres Prediction.

Toronto Blue Jays Preview

Toronto enters at 12-9 after defeating San Diego, 5-2. The Blue Jays used a fast start to steal game two from the Padres, and they’ll look to complete the interleague sweep this Sunday in SD. Toronto is batting .179, while scoring 4.0 runs per game, with a team ERA of 5.57.

Projected Starter

Chris Bassitt (2-2, 4.03 ERA, 22 K) will take the mound for Toronto. The Toledo native came through with a strong showing versus the Yankees last time out, holding them one run over 6.1 innings of work en route to a winning decision. The veteran pitcher has woken up over his last two outings, tossing a pair of quality starts, while allowing just two runs combined. Bassitt struggled in his first two road spots of the season, but he’ll look to mirror last week’s performance this Sunday in San Diego.

Toronto’s Player Props

  • Chris Bassitt has recorded six or more strikeouts in four of his last five appearances with the Blue Jays as underdogs.
  • Bo Bichette has scored a run in each of his last four road appearances against NL West opponents.
  • George Springer has recorded at least one Single in each of his last eight Sunday day appearances.

San Diego Padres Preview

San Diego enters at 11-12 after losing to Toronto, 5-2. The Padres couldn’t get anything going throughout game two, and they’ll look to dodge a fourth straight loss this Sunday. San Diego is batting .257, while scoring 4.8 runs per game, with a team ERA of 4.31.

Projected Starter

Joe Musgrove (2-2, 6.29 ERA, 20 K) will get the start for San Diego. The ninth-year righty was solid in Milwaukee last time out, delivering a quality start (6 IP, 3 ER) to earn his second victory of the season. Musgrove has been a mixed bag through five starts, but he’ll attempt to replicate last week’s results here at home.

San Diego Player Props

  • Joe Musgrove has recorded six or more strikeouts in three of his last four appearances against AL East opponents.
  • Xander Bogaerts has recorded at least one hit in each of the Padres' last 14 Sunday games as favorites.
  • Fernando Tatis Jr. has scored at least one run in 15 of his last 18 appearances with the Padres as favorites against AL East opponents.
  • Ha-Seong Kim has recorded at least one Single in seven of the Padres' last eight games at Petco Park against AL opponents that held a winning record.

Toronto’s Team Facts

  • The Blue Jays have won 16 of their last 17 day games against National League opponents.
  • The Blue Jays have covered the run line in each of their last seven day games against NL West opponents.

San Diego’s Team Facts

  • The road team has covered the run line in 15 of the Padres' last 17 games.

Blue Jays vs Padres Prediction

San Diego’s fallen asleep at the plate this weekend, and with Toronto visibly playing better than the hosts right now, I like swaying in their direction for game three. Joe Musgrove’s shaky form could be worth targeting, and if Chris Bassitt can build on his last two starts, the Jays will be in position to pull off the sweep. The Padres are certainly due an explosion at the plate after failing to surpass two runs for three straight contests, so while Toronto should keep things close here, let’s back the Over for this interleague battle.

The pick in this article is the opinion of the writer, not a PickDawgz site consensus.
