Tampa Bay Rays Betting Preview

The Rays took on the Los Angeles Angels this week, splitting a four-game series. Following a 5-3 loss to the Yankees in their Friday matchup, in game two Tampa Bay struck back with a 10-inning win 2-0. Zach Eflin posted 6.0 clean frames in the starter battle with three hits, no walks and six Ks.

As starter for the Sunday finale, the Rays will go with Aaron Civale. This year in four starts Civale is 2-1 with a 2.74 ERA and 26 Ks in 23.0 innings. Civale is 33-27 with a 3.86 ERA in 90 career games in the MLB.

New York Yankees Betting Preview

Over on the Yankees’ side, they had a tough series against the Toronto Blue Jays this week, losing two of three games. Following their Friday win, on Saturday New York could only muster four team hits—two by Juan Soto. Nestor Cortes put up a nice start of his own on 7.0 innings, no earned, six hits, no walks and nine strikeouts.

It’ll be Luis Gil in the starting role for the Yankees on Sunday. After three starts so far this year Gil is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 20 strikeouts over 14.0 total frames. Gil is 1-2 in his career with a 3.80 ERA over 10 starts. The Yankees will meet the Athletics after this series.

Rays vs Yankees Prediction

I’ll try the Rays in this one. Civale had some bumps here and there during his last start against the Angels but managed to pull off a no-decision. He posted 6.0 innings with three earned on five hits and no walks in that one. As for Gil, he’s coming off a bumpy ride himself with three earned in 5.0 frames versus Toronto during a loss on April 15. I probably trust Civale slightly better than Gil right now, but this starter matchup is a coin flip.

As for New York, on Saturday they had a pretty rough day at the plate against Eflin. Aaron Judge continued to struggle, going 0-for-4 with a quartet of strikeouts. The Yankees need Judge to get going soon; he’s hitting just .179 on the season. If he's on point, Gil should be able to keep the scoreboard manageable on Sunday—but the offense needs to contribute if New York is going to win the series.
