The Tampa Bay Rays will host the Los Angeles Angels for their series opener this Monday from Tropicana Field. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s an Angels vs Rays Prediction.

Los Angeles Angels Preview

Los Angeles enters at 7-7 after losing to Boston, 5-4. The Angels had their final inning rally cut short at Fenway, and they’ll now look to avenge last week’s series loss to the Rays here in Tampa. LAA is batting .238, while scoring 3.93 runs per game, with a team ERA of 4.83.

LAA’s Projected Starter

Patrick Sandoval (1-2, 6.57 ERA, 15 K) will start for LAA. The sixth-year lefty had a tough time with Tampa last time out, giving up four runs through five innings en route to a losing decision. Sandoval has been shaky in two of his first three starts, and this rematch in Florida with the Rays may deliver similar results.

Los Angeles’ Player Props

  • Mike Trout has totaled multiple bases in five of the previous seven games, and he’s posting splits of .281/6/8.
  • Taylor Ward produced runs in all three matchups with Boston, and he leads Anaheim in hits (18), and RBI (16), while batting .306.
  • Luis Renfigo had his eight-game hit streak in the series finale versus the Sox, but he’s still batting a respectable.278.
  • Brandon Drury has started to come alive, and he’s recorded a hit in five of the last six games.
  • Pablo Sandoval has cleared six strikeouts in back-to-back starts.

Tampa Bay Rays Preview

Tampa Bay comes in at 8-7 after defeating San Francisco, 9-4. The Rays gave their former ace Blake Snell a run for his money en route to a series victory, and they’ll look to keep things going here against the Angels. Tampa is batting .248, while scoring 5.0 runs per game, with a team ERA of 5.13.

TB’s Projected Starter

Zach Eflin (1-2, 6.35 ERA, 15 K) will take the mound for Tampa. The Orlando native didn’t fare too well in Anaheim last time out against the Angels, allowing five runs over five innings, before taking the losing decision. Eflin’s first road spot of the year didn’t go very well, but with him set to face LAA at home this time around, he’ll look to bounce back here at home.

Tampa’s Player Props

  • Ames Rosario totaled multiple bases in both wins over San Francisco, and he now leads Tampa in batting (.318).
  • Jose Caballero has been a pleasant surprise for the Rays this season, and despite having his seven-game hit streak snapped versus the Giants, he’s hitting .311.
  • Yandy Diaz doubled in the game three victory over SF, and he’ll look to improve on a .206 batting average this week versus LAA.
  • Harold Ramirez has recorded a hit in eight of the last ten games, and he leads TB in hits (15), while batting .276.
  • Zach Eflin has reached the five-strikeout mark in each of his first three starts.

Angels vs Rays Prediction

The Angels have been sneaky competitive this season, but after letting them steal game one of last week’s set, I believe the Rays come out sharp here in the series opener. Patrick Sandoval’s form to open the year also trends in Tampa Bay’s favor, and if they get a bounce back start from Zach Eflin, they’re in a good spot to pick up the victory. Let’s back Tampa to win this Monday, and give the Over a look as well.
