The San Diego Padres will host the St. Louis Cardinals for their season finale this Wednesday from Petco Park on the MLB Network. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Cardinals vs Padres Prediction.

St. Louis Cardinals Preview

St. Louis comes in at 3-3 after defeating San Diego last night, 5-2. The Cardinals outgunned the Padres late to take game two, and they’ll now look to bring the brooms out here in San Diego. St. Louis is batting .213, while scoring 5.0 runs per game, with a team ERA of 5.23.

Projected Starter

Zack Thompson (0-1, 8.44 ERA, 4 K) will get the start for St. Louis. The third-year pitcher was roughed up in his season debut versus the Dodgers, allowing five runs over 5.1 innings pitched en route to a loss. Facing LAD on the road at any point in the season will be a tall task for opposing pitchers, and Thompson will look to regroup in what should be a lighter matchup versus the Pads.

St. Louis Cardinals Player Props

  • Nolan Arenado has recorded at least one Single in seven of his last eight road appearances against opponents that held a losing record.
  • Paul Goldschmidt has recorded at least one RBI in five of his last six appearances with the Cardinals as underdogs against NL opponents.
  • Miles Mikolas has recorded four or more strikeouts in each of his last four appearances.

San Diego Padres Preview

San Diego enters at 3-5 after losing to St. Louis in game two, 5-2. The Padres gave Yu Darvish no run support, and they’ll look to avoid being swept this Wednesday at home. San Diego is batting .281, while scoring 4.8 runs per game, with a team ERA of 6.29. The Padres will meet the Giants and Cubs after this series.

Projected Starter

Joe Musgrove (0-1, 9.72 ERA, 5 K) will get the start for San Diego. The ninth-year righty didn’t fare very well versus San Francisco last time out, giving up four runs through 5.2 innings, while taking the loss. Musgrove has come out of the gate a bit shaky through his first two starts, but there’s still hope he can regain last season’s form.

San Diego’s Player Props

  • Xander Bogaerts has scored at least one run in 10 of the Padres' last 11 games as favorites against NL opponents.
  • Jake Cronenworth has recorded a win in each of his last six appearances at Petco Park.
  • Fernando Tatis has recorded at least one RBI in each of his last four appearances in night games against NL teams that held a losing record.
  • Yu Darvish has recorded seven or more strikeouts in 10 of his last 11 appearances with his team as a home favorite against NL Central opponents.

St. Louis Team Facts

  • The Cardinals have lost seven of their last eight road games against NL West opponents following a win.

San Diego Team Facts

  • The Padres have won each of their last six home games against NL Central opponents following a home loss.

St. Louis vs San Diego Prediction

San Diego has quietly struggled out of the gate, but with Zack Thompson set to go for St. Louis, they have a chance to turn things around here. Thompson was one of our favorite pitchers to target last season, and with the hosts needing to avoid being swept here, I feel like they’ll come to play Wednesday afternoon. Give the Over a look, as both pitchers have been shaky early on, but let’s give San Diego a chance to recover here in game three.
