Arizona Diamondbacks Preview

Arizona enters at 3-1 after taking three of four from Colorado. The Diamondbacks looked good in their divisional series with the Rockies to open the season, and they’ll have to maintain the same energy with a rejuvenated Yankees group coming in this week. Arizona is batting .333, while scoring 7.3 runs per game, with a team ERA of 3.50.

D’Backs Projected Starter

Ryne Nelson (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will get the ball for Arizona. The Oregon product delivered mixed results during his rookie season, posting a 8-8 record, with a 5.31 ERA, and 96 strikeouts. Nelson did manage to put together a gem in his World Series start versus Texas, and there’s hope he can build on that performance heading into the season.

I can honestly say baseball feels different when there’s a buzz in the Bronx, as the Yankees look like the real deal after sweeping the Astros in Houston, but Arizona has the bats to compete, and there’s a chance they slow the visitors down this week. As we saw in the playoffs last Fall, this D’Backs team can swing with the best of them, and if Ryne Nelson can keep things within reach early, they have a shot to take game one.
