The Philadelphia Phillies will host the Cincinnati Reds for game one of their three-game set this Monday from Citizens Bank Park. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Cincinnati vs Philadelphia Prediction.
Cincinnati Reds Preview
Cincinnati comes in at 2-1 after taking two of three from Washington at home. The Reds used ninth-inning heroics to secure the series victory yesterday, and they’ll attempt to come thru as underdogs this week in Philly. Cincinnati is batting .294, while scoring 4.3 runs per game, with a team ERA of 4.50.
Cincy’s Projected Starter
Andrew Abbott (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will get the call for Cincinnati. The UVA product was enjoying a great rookie campaign prior to the final stretch of 2023, and if he’s able to regain his season-opening form, he could be in for a big sophomore season. Abbott finished at 8-6, with a 3.87 ERA, and 120 strikeouts over 109.1 innings of work in his first year in the bigs.
Cincinnati’s Player Props
- Jonathan India produced runs in both weekend games, and he’s batting .375.
- Nick Martini tallied seven RBI in the Washington series, and he reached base in all three contests.
- Jake Fraley had multiple hits in both wins over the Nats, and he’s 5/8 at the plate heading into Philadelphia.
- Spencer Steer also tallied multiple base knocks in the two wins over Washington, and he’s hitting .400, with three runs batted in.
- Elly De La Cruz recorded a hit in each matchup with the Nationals, and he’s batting .273.
- Andrew Abbott tossed five Ks or more in 11 of 14 road starts last season.
Philadelphia Phillies Preview
Philadelphia enters at 1-2 after dropping two of three to Atlanta at home. The Phillies avoided an early sweep by taking the series finale on Sunday, and they’ll seek better results here versus Cincy. Philadelphia is batting .203, while scoring 2.3 runs per game, with a team ERA of 10.50.
Philly’s Projected Starter
Cristopher Sanchez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will get the start for Philadelphia. The fourth-year lefty showed some positive signs during the final two months of action in 2023, and there’s hope he can bring the Phillies some stability at the back end of the rotation this season. Sanchez wrapped up at 3-5, with a 3.44 ERA over 99.1 innings pitched, and 96 strikeouts last year.
Philadelphia’s Player Props
- Nick Castellanos will be facing his former team this week when Cincy comes to town, and after recording a hit in all three games against Atlanta, he’s batting .300.
- Kyle Schwarber came through with a Schwarbomb in Sunday’s win over ATL, and he’s up to a .231 batting average.
- Bryson Stott tallied three hits in the game two loss to the Braves, and he’s hitting .444.
- J.T. Realmuto (.300) homered in the same contest, then added a base knock in the game three win.
- Former Nats Bryce Harper and Trea Turner struggled in the Atlanta series, but the latter managed to come thru with a timely RBI single in yesterday’s victory.
- Cristopher Sanchez cleared five strikeouts or higher in 10 of 13 home spots in 2023.

Reds vs Phillies Prediction
Philadelphia came thru with a spark on Sunday to avoid dropping three straight to Atlanta, and there’s a chance some of that momentum rolls into their series with Cincinnati. The Reds carry a well-rounded lineup themselves, and while they will be popular underdogs this week, I like the Phillies striking first at home. There’s a lot of capable talent on both sides, so the Over will be in play with both pitchers making their season debuts, but let’s back Philly for game one on Monday.
