Chicago Cubs Betting Preview

The Cubs took a tough loss in the first installment of this series, falling 4-3 in 10 innings after blowing leads in a few spots. Cody Bellinger and Dansby Swanson each notched an RBI in that one. On Saturday the Cubs gave up 16 hits in an 11-2 loss. Chicago’s Kyle Hendricks lasted just 3.2 innings with five earned.

For the Sunday finale start, the Cubs will send out Jordan Wicks. Last year in his seven starts, Wicks managed a 4-1 record with a 4.41 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 34.2 innings for his rookie campaign. Wicks gave up 33 hits, 17 earned runs and five homers in that stretch. The Cubs will take on the Rockies after this series.

Texas Rangers Betting Preview

Over on the Rangers’ side, they had a pretty steady offensive outing Thursday with eight team hits in the win. Adolis Garcia managed two hits, one of them being a solo homer. On Saturday Texas scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth to cap the blowout win. Garcia homered again with three RBI, and Corey Seager had four hits with two RBI.

On Sunday in the starting pitcher role it’ll be Texas’ Jon Gray. Across 29 starts last season Gray went 9-8 with a 4.12 ERA and 142 strikeouts over 157.1 innings. Gray has a career ERA of 4.45 with a 69-64 record and 1125 Ks in 114.0 innings over 205 games (204 starts). The Rangers will face the Rays and Astros following this series.

Cubs vs Rangers Prediction

I’ll take a stab on the Cubs here. We should have a pretty interesting starter matchup on our hands, though. I like both pitchers to at least flirt with quality starts if all goes well. Provided the Cubs offense can hang a few runs along the way I think they’ll be in good shape. On Saturday Chicago had a pretty miserable night on both sides and couldn’t score after the second inning. Three of the Cubs’ five pitchers did well however, so it wasn’t as bad as it seemed overall. Chicago is going to need to get the bats going Sunday if they want to stave off the sweep, but I think it's possible.
