New York Yankees Betting Preview

The Yankees fell behind quickly in Thursday’s opener, trailing 4–0 by the end of the second. New York began their comeback with three runs in the fifth however, and eventually pulled off the 5-4 win. Oswaldo Cabrera was the only team player with more than one hit (two), bagging a pair of runs and an RBI on a solo homer.

In the Friday starting pitcher role for the Yankees it’ll be Carlos Rodon. In Spring Training over five starts this year, Rodon went 2-1 with a 4.19 ERA and struck out 16 batters in 19.1 frames. Rodon posted a 3-8 record and a 6.85 ERA in 14 starts last year. He bagged 64 Ks in 64.1 total innings along the way. The Yankees will face the Diamondbacks after this series.

Houston Astros Betting Preview

Over on the Astros’ side, that early blown lead on Thursday has to sting a little bit. Houston couldn’t get anything going on Nestor Cortes after the second inning and failed to score from there despite 13 hits. Yainer Diaz had three of those hits (and an RBI, while Chas McCormick added two RBI on a 1-for-4 day.

For their starter on Friday, the Astros are sending out Cristian Javier. In his 31 starts last year, Javier went 10-5 with a 4.56 ERA and 159 Ks in 162.0 innings. Javier is 30-17 with a 3.57 ERA in 109 career games (75 starts). The Astros will meet the Blue Jays following this series.

Yankees vs Astros Prediction

I’ll take a stab on the Yankees here. New York was in trouble early in the Thursday opener but eventually settled things down. The Yankees pen was great on 4.0 combined innings, eight hits, no earned and no walks. Overall it was a well-rounded contribution from the offense as well, with everybody getting on base at least once. If Rodon can notch a quality start in this one the bats should give him some cushion.

As for Houston, their pen posted 4.1 innings with two earned on three hits and two walks between five pitchers on Thursday. The results were mixed, and the nine walks certainly need to improve. I like Friday’s game to be another close matchup with New York eking out the win.
