Tigers Preview

The Detroit Tigers were 20-9 in Spring Training this season and they scored 170 runs, while allowing 140 runs to score. The Tigers had a successful Spring, but they will be relying on quite a few young players to improve from last season. Detroit was 78-84 last season and they were in the race for the AL Central, as it was the weakest division in baseball. The Tigers had a horrible offensive attack last year and they didn’t really make too many moves in the offseason, so the offense may struggle again in 2024. On the bright side, Detroit had a solid pitching staff last year and it should be one of the better staffs in the American League if they can stay healthy. The projected starting pitcher for Detroit is Tarik Skubal, who was 7-3 with a 2.80 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP over 80.1 innings pitched last season. The Tigers will play against the Mets in the series after this one.

White Sox Preview

The Chicago White Sox went 9-20 in Spring Training and they scored 135 runs, while allowing 169 runs. The White Sox were the bottom team in the Cactus League during the Spring and while that is not a great indicator of regular season performance, they may lack some confidence coming into this season. Chicago was 61-101 last season, which was fourth in the AL Central. The White Sox moved a couple of their big pieces and they will look to start the rebuild process this season. The White Sox actually scored 20 fewer runs than the Tigers did last season and they were 29th in the MLB in runs scored. On the pitching side of things, Chicago was 26th in team ERA and 24th in team WHIP, so they have some work to do to improve this year. The projected starting pitcher for Chicago is Garrett Crochet, who only pitched in 13 games last season and had a WHIP of 1.97. Following this series, the White Sox will meet the Braves and Royals.

Tigers vs White Sox Betting Prediction

Detroit comes into this season very optimistic about competing in the AL Central, but I am not sure they improved their hitting enough to make that a reality. The AL Central should be very weak once again, so I could see any team making a run at it. Chicago had a very rough 2023 and I do not like how their team is looking to start this season. The White Sox will have the advantage of being at home for this series, but Detroit is the better team, especially with Skubal on the mound. There isn’t a ton of value on the Tigers to win, so I am going to take them to win by at least two runs here.
