Where to Watch: MLB
The Seattle Mariners and the Boston Red Sox will meet in AL action this Thursday night from Tropicana Field on MLBN. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Red Sox vs Mariners Prediction.
Boston Red Sox Preview & Projected Starter
Boston enters their season opener on the heels of a win over Texas, 4-1. The Red Sox played well during the final week of the Spring Training to St. Louis, 7-2. The Cubs faded down the stretch of Spring Training, and after failing to win eight of their final nine games, it’s unclear how they’ll come out here versus the Rangers.
Brayan Bello (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will get the ball for Boston. The third-year pitcher made strides in his sophomore season, posting a 12-11 record, with a 4.24 ERA, and 132 Ks. Bello was Boston’s most durable arm in 2023, and receiving the Opening Day nod is a good sign going forward.
Boston’s Player Props
- Rafael Devers has scored at least one run in each of the Red Sox's last four road openers.
- Triston Casas has recorded at least one hit in each of his last eight road appearances against AL opponents.
- Masataka Yoshida has recorded a Single in each of his last six appearances with the Red Sox against AL West opponents.
Seattle Mariners Preview & Projected Starter
Seattle comes into Opening Day on the heels of a win over San Diego, 7-6. The Mariners closed Spring Training strong by avoiding a loss in nine straight contests, and they’ll look to bring momentum into the regular season.
Luis Castillo (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will get the call for Seattle. The ninth-year flamethrower pitched well during the first full season in the Emerald City, going 14-9, with a 3.34 ERA over 197 innings, and 219 strikeouts. The former Reds pitcher threw well at home in 2023 (8-5, 3.09 ERA), and he’ll look to open the campaign on a strong note Thursday night.
Seattle’s Player Props
- Ty France has recorded a Single in each of his four previous appearances in season openers.
- J.P. Crawford has scored at least one run in each of the Mariners' last four home openers.
- Luis Urias has recorded a hit in each of his last seven home appearances against AL opponents.
Boston Red Sox Team Facts
- The Red Sox have lost each of their last seven Thursday night road games.
- The 'Inning 1 UNDER 0.5 runs' market has hit in each of the Red Sox's last three games.
Seattle Mariners Team Facts
- The Mariners have won each of their last seven home openers.
- The 'Inning 1 UNDER 0.5 runs' market has hit in each of the Mariners' last nine games as favorites.
Red Sox vs Mariners Prediction
It’s unclear what kind of season it will be for Boston, but Luis Castillo set to open the season for Seattle, it may be best to sway in their direction. The Mariners have become a very good second half team, and if they emphasize starting the season strong, we could see similar form from them early on, as they have the arms and bats to compete alongside Texas and Houston. Both clubs are in for uphill battles in division play, but for game one I like rolling with the Mariners at home.
