Cincinnati Reds Betting Preview
The Reds look for a win after winning 5 of their last 6 games. The Reds are currently third place in the NL wild card race. The Reds pitching staff is 24th in ERA (4.71), 23rd in WHIP (1.40) and 25th in quality starts (41). New York Mets Betting Preview
The Mets look for a win after splitting their last 12 games. The Mets are 9 games back in the NL wild card race. The Mets pitching staff is 18th in ERA (4.35), 21st in WHIP (1.37) and 14th in quality starts (52). The Mets offense is 20th in runs per game (4.40), 26th in batting average (.238) and 11th in homers (196). Brandon Nimmo leads the Mets with 146 hits and 60 RBI, while Jeff McNeil and Francisco Lindor have combined for 283 hits and 139 RBI. Jose Quintana gets the ball, and he is 2-5 with a 3.05 ERA and 43 strikeouts this season. Quintana is 4-4 with a 3.06 ERA and 56 strikeouts in his career against the Reds.
This line makes no sense to me. Yes, the Mets are at home and probably have the pitching edge with Jose Quintana on the mound. However, the Mets have been underachievers all season, and they're not a team I'm eager to back in the favorite role. The Reds have not only won 5 of their last 6 games, but they need to keep winning to keep the Marlins off their back in the wild card race. It's hard to turn down the plus money here with a team that has something to play for still.
