Orioles vs Angels Prediction - MLB Picks 9/4/23

Grayson Rodriguez (2-2, 6.21 ERA, 70 Ks) will get the ball for Baltimore. The rookie pitcher came through with his best outing yet against New York last week, tossing 6.1 scoreless frames en route to an O’s victory. Rodriguez returned to the rotation after the break, and after facing the Dodgers, Rays, and Yanks (w/ Judge), things will not slow down for him here with the Blue Jays talented lineup. Prior to his absence, Rodriguez did pitch well in a May matchup in Toronto, striking out six over five innings, while holding the Jays to two runs, and he’ll look for similar success Wednesday. 

Orioles Player Trends & Props

Adley Rutschmann has recorded a hit in seven of the last eight games, and he leads Baltimore in hits (131), with splits of .276/16/61. 

Ryan Mountcastle homered in the game one victory, and he’s posting an identical line of .272/18/62.

Anthony Santander has produced a run in three of his last five games, and he leads O’s in home runs (24) and RBI (69)

Gunnar Henderson also went yard in Friday’s win, and after extending his hitting streak to ten games, he’s hit 22 homers with 65 RBI for the season. 

Austin Hays has totaled multiple bases in five of the previous seven games, and he leads the Orioles in batting (.284), while totaling 52 RBI.

Angels Preview & Projected Starters

Los Angeles moved to 63-70 after being swept by Oakland. No one can fully describe what has happened in Anaheim this, but the three losses to Oakland may have been the final nail. The Angels awkwardly loss after waiving the white flag earlier in the day, and they’ll attempt to show some fight Wednesday.  The LAA offense is scoring 4.16 runs per game, while batting .257, with a .333 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.43 ERA, with a 1.36 WHIP. 

LAA has yet to make a starter for this contest.

Reid Detmers (3-10, 5.03 ERA, 139 Ks) will make the road start for Los Angeles. The third-year lefty struggled against Cincinnati at home last week, allowing four runs in five innings to take his tenth loss of the season. Detmers has struggled with consistency and containment since the start of July, and after allowing four runs or more in five of his last eight starts, he’s in for an uphill battle here with the Phillies lineup. 

Angels Player Trends & Props

Shohei Ohtani has totaled multiple bases in six of the last eight games, and he’s first in the AL in home runs (44), while leading LAA in hits (143) and RBI (91), while batting .305.

Brandon Drury has produced a run in the eight of the last ten games, and he’s posting splits of .266/18/57.

Mike Moustakas plated a run in each of the past three series and he’s posting a line of .262/12/44.

The Angels hit a new low over the weekend, and while it’d be nice to see them compete here at home, their opposing team finds themselves in a much more promising position. The Orioles currently find themselves atop the best division in sports, and I believe they smell blood here and come out strong. Back the O’s here, as the Angels have just waved the white flag this past weekend after being swept by the A’s.
