The Texas Rangers will host the Minnesota Twins for game two of their three-game set this weekend in Arlington from Globe Life Field. Minnesota pulled away late in game one to win by four, 5-1.
Twins Preview & Projected Starter
Minnesota moved to 70-65 after defeating Texas. The Twins used timely hitting to avoid a three-game skid, and they’ll look to take control of the series Saturday. The Minnesota offense is scoring 3.47 runs per game, while batting .237, with a .315 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.58 ERA, with a 1.18 WHIP.
Dallas Keuchel (1-1, 3.50 ERA, 6 Ks) will start for Minnesota. The former veteran lefty handled Texas well last week at home, tossing five scoreless frames en route to a Twins win. Keuchel was pretty solid overall through four starts in August, aside from a rough outing in Philly, and it will be interesting to see how his return to Texas goes here. The Tulsa native has tossed 11.1 straight scoreless frames.
Twins Player Trends & Props
• Longtime Twin Jorge Polanco has produced a run in five of the last six contests, and he’s posting splits of .259/11/38 thru 61 games.
• Carlos Correa has collected a hit in five of the last nine games, and he leads the Twins in hits (103) and RBI (57), with sixteen home runs.
• Max Kepler has totaled multiple bases in five of the previous nine games, and he’s up to 21 homers and 50 RBI for the season.
• Donovan Solano has recorded multiple hits in four of the last six games, and he leads the Twins in batting (.288).
Rangers Preview & Projected Starter
Texas moved to 75-59 after losing to Minnesota. The Rangers let game one slip away, and they’ll attempt to get back into the win column on Saturday. The Texas offense is scoring 4.88 runs per game, while batting .272, with a .341 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.77 ERA, with a 1.20 WHIP.
Jordan Montgomery (8-10, 3.19 ERA, 138 Ks) will get the ball for Texas. The seventh-year lefty had a so-so outing in Minneapolis last week, giving up three runs thru 5.1 innings to the Twins, but avoiding the decision. Montgomery’s pitched well since coming over from St. Louis at the deadline, and after delivering five straight quality starts prior to the first matchup Minnesota with, he’ll look to get back to those ways here Saturday.
Rangers Player Trends & Props
• Corey Seager has gone yard in consecutive games, and he leads the AL in batting (.345), while being second in the team in homers (25) with 80 runs batted in.
• Marcus Semien has collected a hit in seven of the last ten games, and he leads the team in hits (152) and runs (99), with splits of .273/20/81.
• Adolis Garcia has produced a run in three of the last six games, a and he leads the Rangers in home runs (32) and RBI (97).
• Nathaniel Lowe has recorded a hit in thirteen straight games, and he’s posting a line of .282/15/70.
Corey’s Free Pick
Texas continues to teeter at the wrong point in the season, and I believe they’ll figure things out Saturday at home. The Rangers get the face Dallas Keuchel, who’s surprisingly pitched well since joining the Twins, but this will put him in a road spot against a team needing to win now sooner than later. The Rangers should come out aggressive against the veteran pitcher, and this is a great opportunity for them to get back into the win column, as they find themselves drifting in the AL West standings. Back Texas for game two.
