The Cincinnati Reds will play the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 3 of their series on Saturday night at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. Arizona has won the first two games in this series by scores of 3-2 and 10-8. The Diamondbacks have found some success recently and they are currently holding an NL Wild Card spot, while Cincinnati is one game out.

Reds Preview

The Cincinnati Reds are 67-63 this season and they have lost four of their last seven games. Cincinnati had some momentum coming into this series after they swept the Angels, but two straight losses definitely crushes that. The Reds offense has scored 625 runs with a .248 batting average and a .326 on base percentage this season. TJ Friedl is batting .275 with 11 home runs and 47 RBI’s for the Reds. The projected starting pitcher for Cincinnati is Ben Lively, who is 4-7 with a 5.20 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP over 71 innings pitched this year.

Diamondbacks Preview

The Arizona Diamondbacks are 68-61 this season and they have won six games in a row. Arizona has really played well over the last few weeks, after having a very poor month of July. The Diamondbacks have held their opponents to three runs or fewer in four of their last five games. The Arizona pitching staff has a 4.57 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and a .252 opponent batting average this season. The Diamondbacks offense has scored 610 runs with a .255 batting average and a .325 on base percentage. Corbin Carroll is batting .276 with 22 home runs and 64 RBI’s for the Diamondbacks. Pick

The Diamondbacks will look to continue their winning streak in this game, while Cincinnati desperately tries to avoid losing the series. The Reds have really struggled recently, but they may find success against Zach Davies, who has allowed 16 earned runs in his last three starts and hasn’t pitched since July 18th. Cincinnati appears as if they are going to start Ben Lively, who would also be coming off of the IL. Lively did allow 13 earned runs in his last start to the Cubs on August 1st. This pitching matchup is pretty ugly and we could see plenty of runs scored in this game, but I am going with Arizona to continue their winning streak at home.
