The Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers will meet in division play this Tuesday from Target Field.
Tigers Preview & Projected Starter
Detroit moved to 53-65 after dropping two of three to Boston. The Tigers put up a good fight at Fenway last weekend, and they’ll look to stick around the division race here versus Minnesota. The Detroit offense is scoring 2.72 runs per game, while batting .230, with a .300 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.41 ERA, with a 1.26 WHIP.
Alex Faedo (2-4, 5.80 ERA, 37 Ks) will get the call for Detroit. The second-year righty returned to action against Minnesota last week, delivering mixed results by giving up three runs in 4.2 innings pitched. Faedo has struggled throughout the season, and after allowing three runs or more in five of his last seven appearances, more of the same could be in store for him here.
Tigers Player Trends & Props
• Riley Greene has totaled multiple bases in five of his last seven games, and he’s leading the Tigers in batting (.307), with 29 RBI.
• Spencer Torkelson had a season-high four hits in the game two win over Boston, and he leads Detroit in hits (100), home runs (18), and RBI (63).
• Kerry Carpenter brings a ten-game hit streak into this divisional series, and he’s second in team in both homers (15) and runs batted in (41).
Detroit Tigers Team Facts
• The 'Inning 1 OVER 0.5 runs' market has hit in each of the Tigers' last five night games.
• The Tigers have trailed after 3 innings in each of their last three road night games.
Twins Preview & Projected Starter
Minnesota moved to 62-58 after taking two of three from Philadelphia. The Twins snapped a four-game skid in Philly last weekend, and they’ll look to create more separation atop the AL Central this week. The Minnesota offense is scoring 3.47 runs per game, while batting .237, with a .315 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.58 ERA, with a 1.18 WHIP.
Bailey Ober (6-6, 3.40 ERA, 107 Ks) will take the mound for Minnesota. The third-year righty had a tough time in Detroit last time out, allowing eleven hits and four runs to take his sixth loss of the year. Ober’s last two road starts in division play haven’t gone well, but after holding teams to two runs or less in six of his last seven home spots, he’s due for a bounce back effort here.
Twins Player Trends & Props
• Carlos Correa has picked things up this month, as he’s totaled multiple bases in five of the last six games, and brings an eight-game hit streak into this series. Correa leads the Twins in hits (95) and RBI (54), with fifteen home runs.
• Jorge Polanco’s return to the lineup has been huge, and after producing runs in two of three matchups with the Phillies, he’s batting .243 with 23 RBI thru 46 games.
• Longtime Twin Max Kepler has produced a run in seven of the previous nine games, and he’s up to nineteen homers and 46 RBI for the season.
• Donovan Solano collected three hits in the game three win in Philly, and he leads the Twins in batting (.284).
Minnesota Twins Team Facts
• The Twins have led after 5 innings in each of their last eight Tuesday night games against the Tigers at Target Field.
• The 'Inning 1 OVER 0.5 runs' market has hit in each of the Twins' last four night games against American League opponents.
Corey’s Free Pick
Minnesota showed up big time over the weekend, and despite a few questionable calls, they held their own with a high powered Philly team, and I think some of that momentum carries back into the Twin Cities. The Twins have turned things around at the plate this month, and with their division lead growing by the day, there should be a sense of urgency to avoid letting Detroit spoil what they’ve got going right now. Bailey Ober is also due for a better effort against the Tigers here at Target Field, as the 6’9 pitcher has been very reliable at home this season. Back Minnesota for game one of this AL Central series.
Corey’s Pick Twins -1.5
