Pick

Houston comes into this game locked into a battle for first place in the AL West with the Rangers and they will have their new (sort of) pitcher on the mound. The Astros traded for Justin Verlander at the trade deadline and he has been very good recently. Verlander has allowed two earned runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts. New York is starting Nestor Cortes, who is coming off of the IL for his first start since May 30th. Cortes had allowed 2, 4, 2, 6, and 2 earned runs in his previous five starts. The Astros have the better lineup and Verlander has been great lately. Give me Houston here.
