The Texas Rangers and the Chicago White Sox will meet in Arlington for game two of their three-game set this Wednesday from Globe Life Field. Texas took game one behind a strong pitching effort, 2-0.

White Sox Preview & Projected Starter

Chicago enters at 43-65 after losing to Texas. The White Sox were silenced for the second straight contest, and they’ll attempt to get something going here Wednesday. Pedro Grifol‘s team sits at the bottom of the AL Central, as they’ve failed to reach expectations this season. The Chicago offense is 4.72 scoring runs per game, while batting .235, with a .292 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 5.72 ERA, with a 1.21 WHIP.

Dylan Cease (4-4, 4.15 ERA, 143 Ks) will get the ball for Chicago. The fifth-year pitcher struggled in division action with Cleveland last week, allowing nine hits and four runs through 5.2 innings en route to his fourth loss of the season. Cease is the last man standing the three-headed monster the Sox had hoped for atop their rotation, and with Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito gone, the morale in the bullpen and clubhouse may be shaken. Cease has managed to be solid since the start of June, but his decisions have often been affected by the dysfunction in the Southside, and it altered his 2023 record.

White Sox Player Trends & Props

Luis Robert has doubled in four of the previous seven games, and he leads Chicago in hits (108), home runs (29), and RBI (60).

Andrew Vaughn brings a seven-game hit streak into this contest, and he’s tallied thirteen home runs and 58 RBI for the season.

Eloy Jiménez has collected a hit in nine of the last ten games,  and he’s totaled an identical thirteen homers and 48 RBI, while leading the Sox in batting (.282).

Tim Anderson has come alive with hits in eight of his last ten contests, and he’s now batting .245.

Rangers Preview & Projected Starter

Texas moved to 61-46 after defeating Chicago. The Rangers got a great outing from Andrew Heaney on Tuesday, and they’ll look to double down here in game two. Bruce Bochy’s team rests atop the AL West with a slim half-game lead over Houston. The Texas offense is scoring 4.88 runs per game, while batting .272, with a .341 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.77 ERA, with a 1.20 WHIP.

Dane Dunning (8-4, 3.28 ERA, 68 Ks) will get the ball for Texas. The fourth-year pitcher wasn’t terrible in San Diego last week, allowing three runs in five innings to the Padres, but he ended up taking a second straight loss due to a lack of run support. Dunning will look to put a rough month of July behind him, and get back to his earn season ways, as he’s still in the midst of a breakout season. Dunning did manage to toss a July 4th gem at Fenway versus Boston, but he’s 0-3 over his last four outings, and there’s hope he can turn the tide against a fire-selling White Sox team.

Rangers Player Trends & Props

Marcus Semien has plated a run in three of the previous five games, and he leads the team in hits (123) and runs (83), with splits of .277/15/66.

Nathaniel Lowe has recorded a hit in eight of the last ten games, and he’s posting a healthy line of .285/12/57.

Adolis Garcia extended his hit streak to six games with a homer in the game one victory, and he leads the Rangers in home runs (26) and RBI (85).

Josh Jung is hitless over his last three games, but he’s still averaging solid splits of .270/20/61.

Corey Seager and Jonas Heim remain out of the Texas lineup.

Corey’s Free Pick

There was great pitching going on in both Texas’ clubhouse last night, and despite Andrew Heaney’s scoreless gem shunning in comparison to Framber Valdez’ no-hitter, the journeyman still deserves some love for his outing. I believe they get another strong pitching outing here from Dane Dunning, who should be able to bounce back against the struggling Sox. Let’s trust the hosts here, and back Texas to win game two.
