The Los Angeles Angels will play the Atlanta Braves in Game 3 of their series on Wednesday afternoon at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia. The Angels were able to get the win in Game 1 of this series on Monday night by a score of 4-1, but Atlanta bounced back with a nice 5-1 victory in Game 2 on Tuesday night. The Angels were pretty active around the trade deadline, but will all of those moves get them to the postseason?

Angels Preview

The Los Angeles Angels are 56-52 this season and they have won two of their last three games. Prior to splitting the first two games in this series, Los Angeles lost two out of three games in Toronto. The Los Angeles pitching staff has a 4.35 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP, and a .245 opponent batting average this season. The Angels offense has scored 534 runs with a .256 batting average and a .333 on base percentage. Shohei Ohtani is batting .304 with 39 home runs and 81 RBI’s for the Angels. Braves Preview

The Atlanta Braves are 68-37 this season and they have won four of their last five games. Atlanta came into this series after sweeping the Brewers at home, where they scored 29 runs in the three game series. The Atlanta pitching staff has a 3.84 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, and a .243 opponent batting average. The Braves offense has scored 589 runs with a .269 batting average and a .338 on base percentage this year. Matt Olson is batting .261 with 36 home runs and 90 RBI’s for the Braves. The projected starting pitcher for Atlanta is Yonny Chirinos, who is 4-4 with a 4.34 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP over 66.0 innings pitched this season.

Pick

The Angels have made quite a few moves over the last week or so and they are trying to make a push for a Wild Card spot, while Atlanta continues to run away with the NL East. The Braves have been one of the best teams in the MLB, but I am not sold on their starting pitcher in this one. Atlanta is starting Yonny Chirinos, who has allowed seven earned runs in his last 8.1 innings of work. Los Angeles is starting Lucas Giolito, who has allowed 11 earned runs in his last three outings (14 IP). I think we are going to see both offenses get on base early and often and I am taking the over here.

The pick in this article is the opinion of the writer, not a PickDawgz site consensus.
