Nationals vs Mets Prediction - MLB PIcks 7/28/23

The Washington Nationals and New York Mets face off on Friday in an MLB showdown at Citi Field. On Thursday it was the Mets that were able to secure the 2-1 victory. 

Nationals turning a corner? 

The Washington Nationals had a series against the Colorado Rockies to start the week and they were able to win two of the three games. On Wednesday, the Nationals were able to score four runs in the 9th inning and that was enough to secure the win. It was a balanced attack with no one driving in more than one run. The Nationals are averaging 4.32 runs per game while their pitching is giving up 5.22 runs per game. The offense is ranked 22nd while the pitching is ranked 27th. Right Fielder Lane Thomas has been one of the only bright spots for this team hitting 16 home runs and driving in 54 RBIs. On the mound for the Nationals will be MacKenzie Gore who sits with a 6-7 record and an ERA of 4.37. 

New York Mets, Continue to Disappoint 

The Mets are one of the most disappointing teams in all of baseball, but they hope a series against the Nationals is all they need to turn around the season. On Wednesday against the New York Yankees the offense only managed one run and the offense has been an issue all season. The Mets are averaging 4.44 runs while their pitching is giving up 4.56 runs per game. The offense is ranked 18th in the league while the pitching staff is ranked 17th. Pete Alonso has hit 28 home runs and driven in 68 RBIs. Max Scherzer gets the start for the Mets and he sits with an 8-4 record and an ERA of 4.20. In his last start against the Red Sox he looked pretty bad giving up five runs in six innings.
