The Seattle Mariners will head down to Phoenix to start an interleague series with the Arizona Diamondbacks this Friday from Chase Field.
Mariners Betting Preview
Seattle enters at 52-50 after taking two of three from Minnesota. The Mariners avenged last week’s series loss to the Twins, and they’ll not attempt to close the road trip strong in Arizona. The pitching staff carries a 3.55 ERA, with a 1.19 WHIP. Julio Rodriguez has gone yard in back-to-back games, and he leads Seattle in home runs (17), with 55 RBI. Teoscar Hernandez has produced a run in five of the last seven games, and he’s totaled 16 home runs and 58 RBI for the season. Eugenio Suarez plated runs in the last two games in Minneapolis, and he leads the Mariners in RBI (61), with fourteen homers. J.J. Crawford has multiple hits in four of the previous seven games, and he leads the team in batting at .261.
Logan Gilbert (8-5, 3.88 ERA, 116 Ks) will start for Seattle. The third-year righty had a tough time with Toronto at home last week, allowing five runs in five innings, but he avoided the loss due to the high scoring affair. Gilbert has been prone to allowing runs at times this season, but he’s the Mariners most reliable pitcher, and he’ll have a chance to bounce back here in the desert.
Diamondbacks Betting Preview
Arizona moved to 55-48 after dropping two of three to St. Louis. The Diamondbacks are slithering in the wrong direction at an inconvenient time, and they’ll look to turn things around before hitting the road next week. The Arizona offense is scoring 4.34 runs per game, while batting .257, with a .326 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.41 ERA, with a 1.34 WHIP. Corbin Carroll collected three hits in the game three loss, and he’s leading the DBacks in batting (.288), with 21 homers and 57 RBI. Ketel Marte has recorded multiple hits in four of the last six games, and he’s first on the team in hits (108), with splits of .287/17/55. Christian Walker homered in two of three games against St. Louis, and he leads Arizona in home runs (22) and RBI (67).
Tommy Henry (5-3, 4.01 ERA, 58 Ks) will get the ball for Arizona. The sophomore righty has struggled since returning from the break, and he allowed four runs in just 4.1 innings to Cincinnati last week en route to his third loss. Henry has now dropped his two first starts to kick off the second portion of the season, but he’ll now return to Phoenix where he’s pitched much better this season. Henry has allowed two runs or less in five of his last six home spots, and he’ll look to get back on track.
Seattle vs Arizona Trends
Seattle is 48-54 ATS this year, with a 52-40-8 over/under record. Arizona is 57-52 against the spread this season, with a 48-50-2 O/U record.
Corey’s Free Pick
It’s not time to hit the panic button in Phoenix just yet, but the Diamondbacks have to recover soon before it’s too late. They’ve already relinquished their division lead to Los Angeles, while San Francisco has hopped them in the standings as well, and I think they show some fight this weekend. Seattle has battled the .500 bug all season, and while it’s nice to see them get over the hump and put a solid stretch of play together, they’re on cue to drop a contest. This Randy Johnson-themed matchup should see runs on both sides, but I like rolling with Arizona to get back into the win column a bit more. Back Arizona for this interleague matchup, and give the Over a look as well, with both streaky lineups finding production throughout as of late.
