The Miami Marlins and the Colorado Rockies will meet in game three of their four-game set this Wednesday in Denver from Coors Field. Colorado took game two after holding MIami off late, 5-4.
Marlins Betting Preview
Miami moved to 24-25 after falling to Colorado. The Marlins have now dropped three straight, and they’ll look to turn things around during this road west coast trip. The Miami offense is scoring 3.17 runs per game, while batting .247, with a .302 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.84 ERA, with a 1.38 WHIP. Luis Arraez had multiple hits in game one, and he leads Miami in BA (.383) and hits (62). Jorge Soler homered in last night’s near-comeback, and he’s up to team-leads of 13 HR and 29 RBI.
Sandy Alcantara (1-5, 5.05 ERA, 54 Ks) will take the mound for Miami. The reigning Cy Young winner has experienced some regression this season. Alcantara dropped his third straight start in the Bay last week against San Francisco after allowing four runs in 5.2 innings pitched, and he’s been inconsistent since tossing a gem in an April 4th start against Minnesota. Alcantara has only managed to pitch three quality starts in nine appearances, while clearing seven strikeouts just three times as well.
Rockies Betting Preview
Colorado moved to 21-28 after defeating Miami. The Rockies have responded to being swept by the Rangers strong, and they can make it three straight here. The Colorado offense is scoring 4.5 runs per game, while batting .256, with a .317 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.70 ERA, with a 1.43 WHIP. Elias Diaz has recorded multiple hits in four of the last five games, and he leads the Rockies in batting (.345). Kris Bryant produced a run in game two victory, and he’s now up to a team-lead with 48. Charlie Blackmon has a hit in nine of the last ten games, and he leads the team in runs scored (24).
Karl Kauffmann (0-1, 8.31 ERA, 4 Ks) will get the call for Colorado. The rookie pitcher’s MLB debut went as expected in Austin against a scorching Rangers team, giving up five runs in 4.1 innings pitched. This will mark Kauffmann’s first time going at Coors, so this spot may represent a different beast.
Miami vs Colorado Trends
Miami is 18-30 against the spread this season, with a 20-26-2 O/U record. Colorado is 22-26 ATS this year, with a 20-28 over/under record.
Corey’s Free Pick
This is a conflicting spot, as a struggling reigning Cy Young winner and a first-year pitcher will be set to cross paths at the hitter-friendly Coors Field. The Marlins should have the advantage on the mound, but the Rockies have been much better than them at the plate this month, and Sandy Alcantara’s recent form is alarming. I’d love to see Alcantara bounce back here and get his season back on track, but I like targeting the total here with vulnerability set to be mound. Test the Over for game three.
