The Cleveland Guardians and the New York Mets will meet for their series finale this Sunday in Queens from City Field on ESPN. New York rallied to steal game one in extras, 10-9.
Guardians Betting Preview
Cleveland moved to 20-24 after dropping two of three to Chicago. The Guardians played well last night, and will look to finish the mission in game two Saturday. The Cleveland offense is scoring 3.85 runs per game, while batting .229, with a .304 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.78 ERA, with a 1.28 WHIP. Jose Ramirez returned and produced a pair of runs in game one, and he leads Cleveland in batting (.279). Steven Kwan has doubled in three of the last six games, and he leads Cleveland in hits (45) and runs (25). Josh Naylor homered and produced five RBI in game one to bring his team-lead to 31.
Shane Bieber (3-2, 3.20 ERA, 43 Ks) will get the ball for Cleveland. The 2020 AL Cy Young winner had a tough time in the Southside last week, allowing five runs on twelve hits to the White Sox. It marked the first outing Bieber allowed more than three runs, and there’s a chance he bounces back here. Bieber pitched quality starts in six of his first seven appearances.
Mets Betting Preview
New York moved to 23-23 following the win over Cincinnati. The Mets have now climbed back to .500 after winning their third straight game, and they’ll look to make it four in a row here. The New York offense is scoring 4.37 runs per game, while batting .240, with a .304 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.78 ERA, with a 1.38 WHIP. Brandon Nimmo has a hit in eight of the last ten games, and leads the team in batting (.295). Pete Alonso has gone yard in four straight games, including a timely grand slam last night, and he leads the Mets in HR (17) and RBI (41).
Justin Verlander (1-2, 4.76 ERA, 15 Ks) will take the hill for New York. The reigning AL Cy Young winner had a tough time with the talented bats of Tampa last week, allowing six runs in five innings. Verlander pitched well in the start prior in Cincinnati, striking out seven over seven full innings, while allowing just one run, so he also should be due a bounce back.
Cleveland vs New York Trends
Cleveland is 18-26 against the spread this season, with a 16-26-2 O/U record. New York is 17-29 ATS this year, with a 21-24-1 over/under record.
Corey’s Free Pick
In a perfect world, both former Cy Young winners would come out and give us gems, but the bats have found success against these two early on. Both pitchers should be better after poor outings last week, but it’s Justin Verlander who comes into a manageable spot at home. JV’s home debut with the Mets was spoiled by Tampa, and a bounce back effort from him feels more likely. The Mets have won three straight, so let’s trust their momentum Sunday in the series finale.
