The Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies will face off in their series finale this Sunday from Citizens Bank Park on the MLB Network. Philly took game two after a thunderous start, 12-3.
Cubs Betting Preview
Chicago comes in at 20-25 after losing to Philadelphia. The Cubs have dropped six of their last seven games, and they’ll look to leave Philly with a win here. The Chicago offense is scoring 5.75 runs per game, while batting .272, with a .345 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.36 ERA, with a 1.19 WHIP. Nico Hoerner produced four runs in the game one victory and he leads the Cubs in hitting (.304). Dansby Swanson homered against Philly yesterday, and he leads the team in runs scored (24). Patrick Wisdom leads the team in homers (12) and RBI (23).
Justin Steele (6-1, 2.44, 47 Ks) will get the call for Chicago. The third-year pitcher will look to avenge his first loss of the season in Houston that saw him allowing five runs in six innings. Steele has only allowed more than two runs twice this season, and he’ll look to bounce back in Philly Sunday.
Phillies Betting Preview
Philadelphia moved to 21-24 after defeating Chicago. The Phillies snapped a five-game yesterday, and they’ll look to close strong here Sunday. The Philadelphia offense is scoring 4.45 runs per game, while batting .266, with a .322 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.95 ERA, with a 1.37 WHIP. Alec Bohm scored twice in yesterday’s win, and he leads the Phillies in RBI (32). Bryce Harper and Trea Turner have recorded hits in eight of their last ten games. Kyle Schwarber homered last night to bring his team-lead to 11.
Taijuan Walker (2-2, 6.91 ERA, 17 Ks) will get the start for Philadelphia. The eighth-year pitcher was pulled early last week in Bay, failing to make it out of the first inning and surrendering four runs to the Giants. Walker did pitch well in his last home start against Boston, so there’s optimism coming into Sunday.
Chicago vs Philadelphia rends
Chicago is 24-21 against the spread this season, with a 24-20-1 O/U record. Philadelphia is 18-27 ATS this year, with a 20-23-2 over/under record.
Corey’s Free Pick
Chicago comes into the rubber match with an advantage on the mound, and with a bounce back effort from Justin Steele, I think they can keep things close, and potentially steal the contest. Steele has been one of the best pitchers in the league this season, and he can avoid trouble with the strikeout-heavy Phillies, the Cubs can leave PA with a pair of victories. Chicago’s bats should also be able to find production off of Taijuan Walker, who has been inconsistent himself this year. Back Chicago for the series finale Sunday.
