The Colorado Rockies and the Texas Rangers will meet for game two of their interleague series this Saturday in Austin from Globe Life Field on the MLB Network. Texas took game two after a big fifth inning, 7-2.
Rockies Betting Preview
Colorado moved to 19-26 after losing to Texas. The Rockies flattened out last night, and they’ll look to play bigger on Saturday. The Colorado offense is scoring 4.5 runs per game, while batting .256, with a .317 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.70 ERA, with a 1.43 WHIP. Elias Diaz had multiple hits for the second game in a row, and he leads the Rockies in batting (.336). Kris Bryant has multiple hits in six of the last ten games, and he’s now up to a team-lead with 46. Randal Grichuk has a hit in thirteen of his first fourteen games.
Kyle Freeland (4-4, 4.32 ERA, 38 Ks) will pitch for Colorado. The seventh-year lefty is off to his best start in five seasons. Freeland has been dialed in through three starts this month, giving up two earned runs combined, and he tossed a season-high eight strikeouts in six shutout innings at Coors versus Philly on Sunday. Freeland opened the season with three straight quality starts, and his last two outings bring that number to five.
Rangers Betting Preview
Texas moved to 27-17 after defeating Colorado. The Rangers have now traded their last five games, and they’ll look to buck that trend here. The Texas offense is scoring 4.37 runs per game, while batting .266, with a .337 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.87 ERA, with a 1.18 WHIP. Jonah Heim has a hit in nine of the last ten games, he leads Texas in batting (.299). Marcus Semien has an RBI in six of the last nine games, and he leads the team in hits (52) and runs (38). Adonis Garcia has homered in four of the last five games, and he’s first on the team in age (14) and RBI (48). Corey Seager has produced three runs in two games back from injury.
Jon Gray (3-1, 3.15 ERA, 32 Ks) will take the hill for Texas. The eighth-year pitcher put together two strong outings versus divisional opponents Oakland and Seattle last week. Gray struck out a season-high eight strikeouts in seven innings, while allowing one run versus the Mariners, before tossing eight shutout innings against the A’s last Saturday. This will mark a revenge spot for Gray, who spent eight seasons in the Mile High, and he’ll look for his third straight quality start here.
Colorado vs Texas Trends
Colorado is 21-24 against the spread this season, with a 19-26 O/U record. Texas is 28-15 ATS this year, with a 27-15-2 over/under record.
Corey’s Free Pick
Texas comes into game two with the momentum, and possibly the motivation on the mound. This could serve as a revenge spot for Rangers starter Jon Gray, and I think he shows up to face his former team. Gray should gain the necessary run support, and the Rangers can win consecutive games for the first time in two weeks. Kyle Freeland is also dealing himself, so buying into the former rotation mate’s pitching duel is also an angle, but I feel safer backing Texas to win at home, due to owning one of best offenses in the league.
