The Kansas City Royals will head to the Southside to start a divisional series with the Chicago White Sox this Friday from Guaranteed Rate Field. Kansas City took three of four games from Chicago at home last week.
Royals Betting Preview
Kansas City moved to 14-31 after stealing two of three from San Diego. The Royals snapped a four-game skid with a pair of one-run victories, and they’ll look to take a few division games here. The Kansas City offense is scoring 3.35 runs per game, while batting .240, with a .302 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 5.45 ERA, with a 1.44 WHIP. Vinnie Pasquantino homered in the season finale versus SD, and he leads KC in hits (45). Salvador Perez has produced a run in four of the last six games, and he leads the team in RBI (25). Bobby Witt Jr. has scored in four of the last five games, and he leads the team in runs (29).
Zack Grienke (1-4, 5.01 ERA, 37 Ks) will take the mound for Kansas City. The ageless wonder has managed to go five full innings or longer in eight of his first nine starts, and he’s only allowed five runs over his last three outings. Greinke did indeed struggle in three road starts last month, and he was a bit vulnerable to the White Sox at home a few weeks ago, so more of the same could be on the way. Results aside, Greinke’s durability at this stage in his career is nice to see.
White Sox Betting Preview
Chicago enters at 14-27 after defeating Houston. The White Sox finally got back into the win column, and they’ll look to sneak in a series win here. The Chicago offense is 4.72 scoring runs per game, while batting .238, with a .306 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 5.72 ERA, with a 1.21 WHIP. Andrew Vaughn produced a run in two of three games against Cleveland, and he leads the Sox in RBI (31). Luis Robert Jr. has homered in four of the last six games, and he’s first on the team in homers (12) and runs scored (31). Yasmani Grandal has multiple hits in three of the last four games, and he leads the game in batting (.295)
Michael Kopech (1-4, 5.74 ERA, 36 Ks) will get the call for Chicago. The fourth-year pitcher fell back into the loss column last time out after having a tough time with Houston. Kopech only lasted 4.2 innings and walked six batters, and he’ll look for better results versus KC here.
Kansas City vs Chicago Trends
Kansas City is 17-28 against the spread this season, with a 22-19-4 O/U record. Chicago is 22-23 ATS this year, with a 22-18-2 over/under record.
Corey’s Free Pick
As shaky as the White Sox have been, you’d like to think they can capitalize on Zack Grienke pitching in the Southside. The veteran pitcher has been shaky on the road towards the back end of his career, and with Chicago set to play catch up for the foreseeable future, this is a series they need to do well in this weekend.
