The Colorado Rockies will travel down to Austin to take on the Texas Rangers in interleague play this weekend from Globe Life Field on the MLB Network.
Rockies Betting Preview
Colorado moved to 19-25 after taking two of three from Cincinnati. The Rockies have now won four of five series this month, and they’ll look to steal a few games against Texas this weekend. The Colorado offense is scoring 4.5 runs per game, while batting .256, with a .317 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.70 ERA, with a 1.43 WHIP. Elias Diaz produced three runs in the series finale versus the Reds, and he leads the Rockies in batting (.331). Kris Bryant has multiple hits in six of the last nine games, and he’s now up to a team-lead with 46. Randal Grichuk has a hit in twelve of his first thirteen games.
Karl Kauffmann (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 Ks) is set to start Colorado. This will mark the rookie right hander’s first appearance in the majors, and he’ll have to face one of the more productive lineups in the league here with the Rangers.
Rangers Betting Preview
Texas moved to 26-17 dropping two of three to Atlanta. The Rangers let the Braves slip away late to steal the series finale, and look to bounce back in interleague play here. The Texas offense is scoring 4.37 runs per game, while batting .266, with a .337 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.87 ERA, with a 1.18 WHIP. Jonah Heim has a hit in nine of the last ten games, he leads Texas in batting (.308). Marcus Semien has an RBI in six of the last eight games, and he leads the team in hits (51) and runs (37). Adonis Garcia homered three times against Atlanta to bring his team-leads to 13 HR and 46 RBI.
Martin Perez (4-1, 4.25 ERA, 56 Ks) will take the mound for Texas. The veteran left hander will look to avenge a pair of tough outings in Anaheim and Oakland that saw him give up sixteen hits and eleven runs. Both totals equal more than Perez allowed through his first six starts, so there’s optimism he gets back on track in a return to Austin. Perez contained the Yankees to one run in six innings of work in his last home start.
Colorado vs Texas Trends
Colorado is 21-23 against the spread this season, with a 18-26 O/U record. Texas is 27-16 ATS this year, with a 26-15-2 over/under record.
Corey’s Free Pick
Texas comes into an ideal spot to respond to the late-game loss to Atlanta. Colorado’s sending a rookie to the mound, and Texas’ lineup should find a way to capitalize on that to get back into the win column. The Rockies have also been swinging the bat well this month, so while I like the Rangers to win here, the Over is attainable and brings a bit more security.
