The Cleveland Guardians will head out to Queens to start their interleague series with the New York Mets this Friday from City Field on SNY.
Guardians Betting Preview
Cleveland moved to 20-23 after dropping two of three to Chicago. The Guardians avoided a sweep by taking game three, and they’ll look for better success on the road here. The Cleveland offense is scoring 3.85 runs per game, while batting .229, with a .304 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.78 ERA, with a 1.28 WHIP. The Guardians will be shorthanded this weekend Jose Ramirez set to miss the series, and that may sway a few outcomes. Steven Kwan has doubled in three of the last five games, and he leads Cleveland in hits (45). Josh Naylor went on a tear with three homers versus LAA, but after missing the set with Chicago, his status will also need to be monitored this weekend.
Cal Quantrill (2-2, 3.97 ERA, 21 Ks) will take the mound for Cleveland. The fifth-year pitcher has been the Guardians most reliable arm this season early on. Quantrill delivered another solid outing versus the Angels in his last spot, and it led to a Cleveland victory. Quantrill isn’t a high strikeout rate pitcher, but five of his last six outings have resulted in quality starts.
Mets Betting Preview
New York moved to 22-23 after taking two of three from Tampa Bay. The Mets close their set with the Rays with a pair of one-run victories, and they’ll look to build on that momentum against Cleveland. The New York offense is scoring 4.37 runs per game, while batting .240, with a .304 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.78 ERA, with a 1.38 WHIP. Brandon Nimmo has a hit in seven of the last nine games, and leads the team in batting (.298). Pete Alonso homered in all three games against Tampa, and he leads the Mets in HR (15) and RBI (36).
Carlos Carrasco (0-2, 8.56 ERA, 8 Ks) will get the start for New York. The fourteen-year pitcher will return to mound for first time in over a month to face his former team here. Carrasco struggled through three starts prior to his stint on the DL, allowing eleven runs in his first two outings, before giving up just two in five innings in Oakland.
Cleveland vs New York Trends
Cleveland is 17-26 against the spread this season, with a 15-26-2 O/U record. New York is 17-28 ATS this year, with a 20-24-1 over/under record.
Corey's Free Pick
Cleveland heads up to Queens a bit shorthanded, and New York may be able to capitalize on that this weekend. The pitching matchup in game one is a bit conflicting, as the Mets will trot out a returning Carlos Carrasco, while the Guardians will be sending their most reliable arm in Cal Quantrill to the mound. It’s hard to trust Carrasco off of injury after looking a bit shaky to open the season, and I like targeting the Under in game one. New York has underwhelmed at the plate this season, while Cleveland may be without their two best power hitters.
