The San Diego Padres will host the Kansas City Royals for game two of their interleague series this Tuesday from Petco Park. San Diego took game one in shutout fashion, 4-0.

Royals Betting Preview

Kansas City moved to 12-31 after losing to San Diego. The Royals have now dropped four straight, and they’ll look to avoid an even further skid on this road trip. The Kansas City offense is scoring 3.35 runs per game, while batting .240, with a .302 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 5.45 ERA, with a 1.44 WHIP. Vinnie Pasquantino has been quiet over these past four games, but he leads KC in hits (43). Salvador Perez just seems to keep playing productive baseball, and after multiple hits in three of the last four games, he leads the team in batting (.293) and RBI (23).

Brady Singer (2-4, 7.71 ERA, 37 Ks) will take the mound for Kansas City. The fourth-year pitcher delivered his second quality start of the season last week against Chicago, giving up just one run in six full innings en route to a KC win. Singer has allowed fourteen earned runs through just three road starts thus far in 2023.

Padres Betting Preview

San Diego moved to 20-22 after defeating Kansas City. The Padres snapped a six-game skid by shutting out KC, and they’ll look for more of the same this Tuesday. LThe San Diego offense is scoring 4.31 runs per game, while batting .234, with a .321 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.03 ERA, with a 1.29 WHIP. Xander Bogaerts leads the Pads in hits (41) after recording a hit in five of six games. Juan Soto has a hit in seven of the last ten games,  and he leads the team in RBI (20). Fernando Tatis has settled all the way back in, and after recording multiple hits in three of his last five games, he leads SD in batting (.289).

Seth Lugo (3-2, 3.18 ERA, 36 K) is set to start for San Diego. The former longtime relief pitcher has found success as a starter with the Pads this season. Lugo has delivered consecutive quality starts to bring his season total to five, striking out five in six full innings versus Minnesota and Cincinnati in his last two outings.

Kansas City vs San Diego Trends

Kansas City is 15-27 against the spread this season, with a 20-20-2 O/U record. San Diego is 20-21 ATS this year, with a 13-26-2 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

San Diego will have another good chance of rallying a win Tuesday against Kansas City. Seth Lugo may not replicate Michael Wacha’s game one effort, but he’s been pitching very well over his past five, and he should be able to control this game at Petco. The Pads can inch back closer to .500 with another victory, and I like their chances versus an inferior KC team. Back San Diego again for game two.

Corey’s Pick Padres -1.5
