The Atlanta Braves will head north of the Border to start a three-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays this Friday from the Rogers Centre.
Braves Betting Preview
Atlanta improved to 25-12 after splitting games with Boston. The Braves won three of their five games at home over the AL East, and they’ll look to finish strong against Toronto this weekend. The Atlanta offense is scoring 5.37 runs per game, while batting .262, with a .342 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.52 ERA, with a 1.24 WHIP. Ronald Acuna Jr. has recorded a hit in eight of the last ten games, and he’s leading Atlanta in BA (.347) and hits (50). Matt Olson homered versus Boston and Baltimore, and he’s up to a team-lead eleven home runs, with 29 RBI. Sean Murphy produced four runs in the game one win over the Sox, and he’s first on the team in RBI (32).
Spencer Strider (4-0, 2.70 ERA, 67 Ks) will get the ball for Atlanta. The second-year pitcher kept things going last week with a ten strikeout performance versus Baltimore last time out. Strider has cleared nine strikeouts in all but one of his first seven starts, and he’s 3-0 on the road this season
Blue Jays Betting Preview
Toronto moved to 21-16 after dropping two to Philadelphia. The Blue Jays stay in PA didn’t end well after sweeping Pittsburgh over the weekend, and they’ll look to bounce back here at home. The Toronto offense is scoring 4.85 runs per game, while batting .256, with a .331 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.81 ERA, with a 1.27 WHIP. Matt Chapman had hits in four of five games on their road trip, and he leads the Jays in batting average (.338). Vlad Guerrero Jr. doubled in the series finale versus Philly, and he’s second on the team in both categories with a .318 BA and 21 RBI. Bo Bichette brings a six-game hit streak into this series, he’s first on the team with 24 RBI.
Chris Bassitt (4-2, 4.28 ERA, 33 Ks) will take the mound for Toronto. The ninth-year pitcher put together a strong performance in Pittsburgh last week, striking out five in seven shutout innings to earn his fourth victory of the season. Bassitt has delivered five quality starts this season, and has quietly been Toronto’s most consistent pitcher early on.
Atlanta vs Toronto Trends
Atlanta is 17-20 against the spread this season, with a 22-14-1 O/U record. Toronto is 19-18 ATS this year, with a 17-18-2 over/under record.
Corey’s Free Pick
This potential World Series preview should generate some good baseball this weekend. Atlanta will be sending their best arm in Spencer Strider to the mound in game one in an effort to jump out to a fast start, and I think Chris Bassitt matches his energy early at home. The Jays will represent the toughest lineup Strider has faced, so while he may still go out and pitch well, the hosts may be able to find success. It could be similar to Strider’s start in Queens versus the Mets, and I like both potent lineups coming together to hit the magic number. Take the Over for this interleague matchup.
