The Miami Marlins will travel to Phoenix to face the Arizona Diamondbacks for a three-game set from Chase Field. Miami took two of three matchups in South Beach last month.
Marlins Betting Preview
Miami moved to 17-18 after dropping two of three to Chicago. The Marlins thankfully snapped a five-game skid in the series finale with the Cubs, and they’ll look to regroup on this trip to the desert. The Miami offense is scoring 3.17 runs per game, while batting .249, with a .307 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.74 ERA, with a 1.38 WHIP. Luis Arraez continues to churn out hits, and after recording a hit in eleven straight games, he leads Miami in batting (.420) and hits (46). Jorge Soler has produced a run in three of the last four games, and he’s first on the team in RBI (14).
Braxton Garrett (1-1, 5.81 ERA, 22 Ks) will take the mound for Miami. The fourth-year lefty had an abysmal outing last week with Atlanta, allowing a massive eleven earned runs in just 4.1 innings pitched. Garrett has been much sharper than that outing this season, not allowing more than two runs in any of his first five starts. Garrett even performed well in a start against Arizona, striking out five in 5.2 innings, while allowing just one run.
Diamondbacks Betting Preview
Arizona comes in at 19-15 after taking two of three from Washington. The Diamondbacks let their final contest with the Nats slip away, and they’ll look to nail down win number twenty this Monday. The Arizona offense is scoring 5.06 runs per game, while batting .270, with a .304 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.83 ERA, with a 1.35 WHIP. Corbin Carroll (.315) has recorded a hit in eleven straight games, and he leads the DBacks in runs (22). Geraldo Perdomo was held hitless over the weekend versus Washington, but he still leads the team in batting (.380). Christian Walker has multiple hits in four of the last five games, and he’s up to team-leads in hits (34) and RBI (25).
Zac Gallen (4-1, 2.53 ERA, 57 Ks) will take the mound for Arizona. The fifth-year pitcher finally had his scoreless innings streak snapped, but he still pitched well in Austin against the Rangers, striking out six over five innings pitched. Gallen was dominant towards the end of April, and he’s cleared seven strikeouts in five of his first seven starts.
Miami vs Arizona Trends
Miami is 12-23 against the spread this season, with a 15-19-1 O/U record. Arizona is 19-15 ATS this year, with a 18-14-1 over/under record.
Corey’s Free Pick
Two bold things of note heading into this matchup are Miami’s struggles and the man Arizona is sending to the mound. Zac Gallen has been in peak form, and this Marlins lineup could serve as food for the DBacks’ ace. Arizona’s performance at the plate has also been impressive, so they’re trustworthy in this spot. Back the Diamondbacks to get back into the win column in game one, and give the manageable total a look, as the hosts may be able to handle the heavy duty.
