The Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics will play game two of their weekend series from Kauffman Stadium. 

Athletics Betting Preview

Oakland moved to 7-26 following the win over Kansas City. The Athletics exploded for a season-high 12 runs last night, and they’ll somehow look to replicate that effort here. The Oakland offense is scoring 2.81 runs per game, while batting .232, with a .311 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 7.39 ERA, with a 1.50 WHIP. Brent Rooker had a big game yesterday, doubling, homering, and producing three runs, and he leads the team in batting (.333), HR (10), and RBI (25). 

Ken Waldichuk (0-2, 6.23 ERA, 15 Ks) will get the start for Oakland. The second-year lefty hasn’t been consistent early on this season, but he’s avoiding losing decisions. Waldichuk struck out a season-high seven batters last week versus Cincinnati, but after allowing five runs or more in three of six starts, he’s shown vulnerability.

Royals Betting Preview

Kansas City fell to 8-25 after losing to Oakland. The Royals have dropped three of four to start the month, and they’ll look to capitalize in this manageable home Saturday spot. The Kansas City offense is scoring 3.35 runs per game, while batting .233, with a .293 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 5.83 ERA, with a 1.74 WHIP. Vinnie Pasquantino has a hit in eight of the last ten games, and he leads KC in batting at .289. Salvador Perez had a pair of multi-RBI games this week, and he leads the team in RBI (18).  

Brady Singer (0-2, 7.62 ERA, 5 Ks) will take the mound for Kansas City. The fourth-year pitcher is coming off of his toughest outing of the season, failing to make it thru the third inning in Minnesota, and giving up eight runs to the Twins. Singer was great in the start before against Arizona, only allowing one run thru six full innings, so there’s hope he can bounce back here.

Oakland is 13-19 against the spread this season, with a 20-10-2 O/U record. Kansas City is 11-21 ATS this year, with a 16-14-2 over/under record.

On such a jam-packed weekend, this Oakland/Kansas City series will certainly be the least desirable to watch, but there may lay a betting angle within. Kansas City will have a minor advantage on the mound with Brady Singer set to start, and after letting the A’s get loose for twelve runs yesterday, they should be able to bounce back today. It’s very unlikely the Athletics go off like that at the plate again, so tread lightly and trust Kansas City to win at home.
