The Atlanta Braves will head up to Queens to start a four-game set with the New York Mets this Friday from Citi Field on the MLB Network.

Braves Betting Preview

Atlanta improved to 17-9 taking three of four from Miami. The Braves responded to a sweep from the Astros by outscoring the Marlins in each contest but the season finale. The Atlanta offense is scoring 5.48 runs per game, while batting .272, with a .352 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.79 ERA, with a 1.33 WHIP. Ronald Acuna Jr. recorded an RBI in the final two games versus Miami, and he’s leading the team in average (.363). Ozzie Alvies produced five runs against the Marlins, and he’s now up to a team-lead 23 RBI.

Max Fried (1-0, 0.60 ERA, 11 Ks) will make the start for Atlanta. The seventh-year lefty has returned from injury with a pair of shutout outings versus San Diego and Houston. Fried struck out five over 6 ⅔ scoreless innings against the Astros in his last outing.

Mets Betting Preview

New York moved to 14-9 after splitting their four-game set with San Francisco. The Mets’ trip to the Bay was altered by a heroic eighth inning from the Giants, and they fell by one run, 5-4. The New York offense is scoring 4.37 runs per game, while batting .234, with a .329 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.16 ERA, with a 1.34 WHIP. Brandon Nimmo leads the Mets in batting average (.341) after recording a pair of hits in the win over Washington. Pete Alonso produced a pair of runs in the season finale, and he’s first on the team in RBI (25).

David Peterson (1-3, 7.36 ERA, 30 Ks) will open the series for New York. The fourth-year pitcher had a tough first month of action, allowing five or more runs in three of four starts. Peterson allowed seven runs in five innings pitched against the Giants in his last outing, and suffered a second straight losing decision. Peterson did manage toss eight strikeouts versus San Francisco, and he’s cleared the magic number of six in three straight appearances.

Atlanta vs New York Trends

Atlanta is 12-13 against the spread this season, with a 15-9-1 O/U record. New York is 13-12 ATS this year, with a 10-14-1 over/under record.

Corey's Free Pick

I find it ironic both New York squads temptingly find themselves in underdogs spot on my birthday, but just as the Yanks will have to face a stud in Jacob DeGrom, the Mets will have to deal with a dialed in Max Fried. Atlanta’s bats should also have their way with David Peterson, and they have a good chance of stealing game one on the road. Avoid attempting the bing bong parlay, and back the Braves this Friday. Give the over a look as well, with Peterson looking very vulnerable early on, and the firepower on both sides.

The pick in this article is the opinion of the writer, not a PickDawgz site consensus.
