Padres Betting Preview

San Diego dropped to 12-13 after falling to Chicago. The Padres were shutout for the fourth time in ten games, and they’ll look to bounce back here. The San Diego offense is scoring 4.31 runs per game, while batting .216, with a .301 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.34 ERA, with a 1.36 WHIP. Xander Bogaerts leads the Pads in batting (.330) and hits (17). Matt Carpenter is now first on the team in RBI (13) after producing five runs in Sunday’s win over Arizona.

Michael Wacha (2-1, 7.08 ERA, 18 K) is set to start for San Diego. The tenth-year pitcher delivered a gem in Atlanta three weeks ago, but he’s been blitzed through his last two starts. Wacha allowed double digit hits, and gave up twelve earned runs combined versus Milwaukee and Arizona, and it’s unclear if he’ll be able to show any resistance at Wrigley this Wednesday.

Cubs Betting Preview

Chicago comes in at 13-9 after defeating San Diego. The Cubs shook off the tough series with the Dodgers by shutting out the Padres, and they’ll aim to keep things going here. The Chicago offense is scoring 4.90 runs per game, while batting .280, with a .349 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.67 ERA, with a 1.17 WHIP. Nico Hoerner brought in three runs in last night’s victory , and he leads tgevtean unvguygf to caught fire last week with multiple hits in four of six games, and he now leads the Cubs in batting (.355). Patrick Wisdom is first on the team in RBI (18), while Cody Bellinger is now second at 15 after enjoying success against his former team, and producing a run in three of four games with the Dodgers.

Drew Smyly (2-1, 3.13 ERA, 23 Ks) will get the call for Chicago. The veteran lefty delivered a gem in his last start, striking out ten in 7 ⅔ innings of work against the Dodgers at Wrigley.

San Diego vs Chicago Trends

San Diego is 12-12 against the spread this season, with a 11-12-1 over/under record. Chicago is 13-8 ATS this year, with a 12-9 O/U record.

Corey's Free Pick

San Diego found little success at the plate with Justin Steele dealing for Chicago, and they might fall victim again here versus Drew Smyly, whose coming off of one of the best outings of his career. Throw in Michael Wacha’s recent shakiness, and you’ve got the elements to another Cubs victory. Take Chicago’s line for this contest, and double down with the Over, just in case the Padres could come out swinging after being shut out last night.
