The Washington Nationals will head up to Queens to start a three-game divisional series with the New York Mets this Tuesday from Citi Field.
Nationals Betting Preview
Washington moved to 7-14 after winning two of three over Minnesota. The Nationals won their second road series of the season after a big win on Saturday, but they failed to complete the sweep and lost game three to the Twins by two, 3-1. The Washington offense is scoring 3.42 runs per game, while batting .248, with a .314 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.26 ERA, with a 1.36 WHIP. Victor Robles delivered in the game two win over the Twins with a double and a triple, and he’s leading the team in batting average (.290). Jeimer Candelario is the only Nat to reach double figures in RBI with a team-lead 11.
Josiah Gray (0-4, 3.74 ERA, 13 Ks) will take the bump for Washington. The third-year flamethrower has been much more reliable than his record indicates. Prior to his last outing, Gray only allowed one run over six full innings at hitter-friendly Coors Field versus the Rockies, then he came through a solid start in Anaheim against the star power of the Angels. I’m his most recent start, Gray pitched well in the DMV matchup with Washington, only giving up one run in five full innings, and still ended up taking a fourth straight losing decision due to a lack of run support.
Mets Betting Preview
New York moved to 14-9 after splitting their four-game set with San Francisco. The Mets’ trip to the Bay was altered by a heroic eighth inning from the Giants, and they fell by one run, 5-4. The New York offense is scoring 4.37 runs per game, while batting .242, with a .339 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.16 ERA, with a 1.34 WHIP. Brandon Nimmo leads the Mets in batting average (.350) after catching fire in California with multiple hits in six of their last ten games. Pete Alonso was quiet in the last two games against San Fran, and he’s among NL leaders in homers (10) and RBI (23).
Jose Butto is set to start the contest for New York. Max Scherzer’ ESPN suspension on top of injuries to Justin Verlander and Carlos Carrasco will lead to another spot start for the second-year pitcher. Butto was serviceable versus Oakland on the road in his season debut, only allowing one run through five innings of work.
Washington vs New York Trends
Washington is 12-9 against the spread this season, with a 9-10-2 over/under record. New York is 13-10 ATS this year, with a 10-12-1 O/U record.

The Mets will return to Queens after a ten-game west coast trip, and I think they feed off of the energy at Citi Field in this divisional battle. New York won seven of those ten games, including a clean sweep of Oakland, and they may make life even tougher for winless Josiah Gray. The Mets have started six of their first seven series with game one victories, so let’s trust the fast start at home, and roll with the Mets for this NL East matchup.
