The Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox will begin a three-game divisional set this Monday evening from Camden Yards. Boston took two of three games at Fenway Park in their season opening series.
Red Sox Betting Preview
Boston is 12-11 after taking two of three from Milwaukee. The Red Sox exploded for nine runs in the eighth inning to upset the Brewers by seven, 12-5. The Boston offense is 4.83 scoring runs per game, while batting .246, with a .323 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 5.10 ERA, with a 1.35 WHIP. Jarren Duran has brought life to the lineup, recording a hit in five of his first six games, and churning out six RBI. Masataka Yoshida has multiple hits in three of his last four games, and he hit two homers in the comeback win over Milwaukee.
Chris Sale (1-1, 8.00 ERA, 30 Ks) will get the ball for Boston. The sophomore pitcher turned the clock back in his last outing versus the Twins, tossing eleven strikeouts over six innings of work, while allowing just one run. Sale has missed a lot of time with injury, but there’s hope his last outing is a sign of things to come.
Orioles Betting Preview
Baltimore moved to 14-7 after sweeping Detroit. The Orioles completed their second straight sweep after sneaking by the Tigers with a one-run win, 2-1. The Baltimore offense is scoring 5.33 runs per game, while batting .246, with a .340 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.31 ERA, with a 1.24 WHIP. Ryan Mountcastle has a hit in four of the last five games, and he leads the O’s in RBI (20). Adley Rutschman and Cedric Mullins are tied for second on the team with 15 RBI, while Jorge Mateo carries the team-lead in hitting (.360).
Dean Kremer (1-0, 6.16 ERA, 14 Ks) will make the home start for Baltimore. The fourth-year pitcher came through with his finest outing of the season in a battle of the DMV with Washington last week. Kremer struck out six over 6 ⅔ innings of shutout ball to earn his first winning decision of the season. Kremer did struggle in his season debut at Fenway with Boston, so it remains to be seen how he follows up that strong outing in DC.
Boston vs Baltimore Trends
Boston is 13-10 against the spread this season, with a 16-7 over/under record. Baltimore is 11-10 ATS this year, with a 11-9-1 O/U record.
Corey's Free Pick
Baltimore has been a thorn in Boston’s side over the past three seasons, and while there’s a chance that continues this week, I think we’ll see some runs in the first contest. Boston had success at the plate versus Minnesota and Milwaukee last week, and with the O’s sending Dean Kremer to the hill, that momentum should carry over. Kremer put together a gem in DC versus the Nats, but he should come back down to earth when dealing with the Sox. Baltimore has been strong throughout the lineup at the plate themselves, so I like the Over for game one of this divisional series.
