The Toronto Blue Jays and the St. Louis Cardinals will wrap up their three-game set at Busch Stadium this Sunday. The Cards avenged a game one loss by silencing the Jays lineup, and winning by three, 4-1.
Blue Jays Betting Preview
Toronto sits at 1-1 after losing to the Cardinals Saturday. The Blue Jays were quiet for eight innings before finally breaking through in the eighth, and they’ll look to display a much better effort here. Vlad Guerrero hit three RBI in the opener, and scored the lone run yesterday. Bo Bichette and George Springer have five hits apiece through the first two games.
Chris Bassitt will get the ball for Toronto. The longtime A’s pitcher spent 2022 in Queens with the Mets where he posted a personal-best 15 wins and 167 strikeouts, with a 3.42 ERA. Bassitt often capitalized on the run support in New York, and posted a nice 9-3 record on the road.
Cardinals Betting Preview
St. Louis comes in at 1-1 after taking down the Jays yesterday. The Cardinals used a good third inning and strong mound work to hop into the win column. Jack Flaherty looked healthy in his debut, and if he’s available for the long run this season, the Cards are going to give team’s trouble down the stretch.
Jordan Montgomery will make the start for St. Louis. The seventh-year pitcher was one of the best pickups at the Trade Deadline, and he paid dividends by posting a 6-3 record, with a 3.11 ERA and 67 strikeouts during the Cards playoff push. Montgomery made two starts against this talented Toronto lineup last season, and came away with a 3.27 ERA and ten strikeouts.
Toronto vs St. Louis Trends
Toronto is 0-2 against the spread this season, with a 1-1 over/under record. St. Louis 2-0 ATS this season, with a 1-1 O/U record.
Corey's Free Pick
These two groups of birds will flock together one more time this Sunday, and I don’t think the arms have as much success controlling things today. Bassitt and Montgomery are both serviceable starters, but that magic number on a nice Sunday feels attainable with them both set to make their season debuts. Take the over for this interleague battle of birds.
