The Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays face off on Saturday in an MLB showdown at Tropicana Field. On Thursday it was the Rays that were able to secure the 4-0 victory.

There aren’t a whole lot of expectations surrounding this Tigers team, and the first game didn’t give off a whole lot of hope. There are a lot of concerns surrounding the offense and in the first game they couldn’t find any offense. The Tigers managed six hits, the same amount as the Rays, but they couldn’t bunch hits together, and that led to them being a shootout. Austin Meadows was the only bright spot finishing with three hits. Getting the start for the Tigers will be Spencer Turnbull and this will be his first appearance in the majors since 2021. He had to work his way back from Tommy John surgery.

On the other side of this matchup is the Rays who used good pitching to their advantage in the first game of the season. Wander Franco finished with two hits hit and one run. Starting pitcher Shane McClanahan had a strong game on the mound finishing with six innings giving up only four hits. Getting the start for the Rays will be Zach Eflin who will be making his first start with his new ballclub.
