The Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers face off on Thursday in the first MLB game of the season at Globe Life Field. The Rangers have won the last nine games over the Phillies this season.

The Phillies have high expectations for this season after finding so much success last season, but they suffered a huge blow during spring training. Star slugger Rhys Rhys Hoskins suffered a knee injury and he’s out for the season. Bryce Harper is also going to be out until July as he recovers from a UCL Tear. Until Harper is back, the Phillies just need to try and keep their head above water. On the mound for the Phillies will be Aaron Nola who last season with an 11-13 record and an ERA of 3.25.

On the other side of this matchup is the Rangers who made a lot of changes this offseason and they are trying to spend money to get back into the playoffs. It’s a new front office and new manager in Bruce Bochy. Corey Seager and Marcus Semien both are stars on the offense, and they are going to need to get the bats going early in this game. Leody Taveras is dealing with an oblique injury and will be out the next few weeks. Getting the start for the Rangers will be Jacob deGrom, and he’s the best pitcher in baseball when he’s healthy. Last season he finished with a 5-4 record and an ERA of 3.08.
