The Boston Red Sox will open the season in AL East play and host the Baltimore Orioles for a three-game set at Fenway Park on the NESN. Boston narrowly led the head-to-head series last season, 10-9, but Baltimore won five of the last six matchups.

Baltimore went 16-13 in the Grapefruit League, after finishing fourth in the AL East last season. The Orioles return a good chunk of last year’s upset-happy squad, and the addition of former All-Star second baseman Adam Frazier could make them an even tougher out.
Kyle Gibson will get the ball for Baltimore. The eleventh-year right hander spent last season in Philly, and posted a 10-8 record, with a 5.05 ERA, and 144 strikeouts. Gibson went 3-4 on the road last year, but he faces a stiff test in Fenway in his first start for the Os.
Red Sox Betting Preview
Boston went 14-14 in the Grapefruit League, after finishing last in the AL East last year. The Red Sox will look a little different this season without Xander Bogaerts, but they do welcome back Alex Verdugo and Rafael Defers, and there’s optimism heading into the season. The off-season additions of Justin Turner and Masataka Yoshida should also have a positive effect on the lineup.
Corey Kluber will take the mound for Boston. The thirteenth-year veteran has spent the last two seasons with division foes New York and Tampa Bay, and he posted a 10-10 record, with a 4.34 ERA and 139 strikeouts. Kluber noticeably performed better at home last season with a 7-3 home record and he’ll look to carry that momentum into Fenway here.

Baltimore went 97-65 against the spread in 2022, with a 72-84-6 over/under record. Boston went 84-78 ATS, with a 77-77-8 O/U record.

Baltimore was a thorn in Boston’s side throughout last season, and the host will look to turn the tables this year. The Red Sox will be looking to put a dreadful 2022 campaign behind them, and there will be a sense of urgency to avoid a slow start.
