The Los Angeles Angels will play the Oakland Athletics in Game 1 of their series on Thursday night at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California.

Angels Preview

The Los Angeles Angels were 73-89 last year and finished in third place in the AL West. Los Angeles went 18-11 during Spring Training this season, but can the Angels finally put together a playoff season with Trout and Ohtani? Ohtani is coming off of a great performance at the World Baseball Classic and will most likely have another monster season. The Angels are dealing with a few injuries to Stassi and Walsh, but the core part of their lineup is healthy. The projected starting pitcher for the Angels is Shohei Ohtani, who was 15-9 with a 2.33 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP last year. 

Athletics Preview 

The Oakland Athletics were 60-102 last year and finished in fifth place of the AL West standings. Oakland was one of the worst teams in baseball last year and it looks like it will be a similar story this season. Oakland went 11-17 in Spring Training this year and gave up a ton of runs. The Athletics pitching staff may be in for a long season and their lineup is not going to produce a ton of runs. The projected starting pitcher for Oakland is Kyle Muller, who was 1-1 with a 8.03 ERA and a 1.70 WHIP last season.
