The Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins meet Sunday in MLB action at loanDepot park. The Washington Nationals need a win after losing 5 of their last 6 games. The Miami Marlins look for a win after splitting their last 10 games.
The Washington Nationals have scored 6 runs in their last 3 games and 3 or fewer runs in 6 straight games. The Nationals have lost 7 of their last 8 games when scoring 3 or fewer runs. Cesar Hernandez leads the Nationals with 133 hits and 34 RBI, while Lane Thomas and Nelson Cruz have combined for 218 hits and 116 RBI. Anibal Sanchez gets the ball, and he is 2-6 with a 4.40 ERA and 38 strikeouts this season. Sanchez is 4-3 with a 3.05 ERA and 42 strikeouts in his career against the Marlins.
The Miami Marlins have scored 12 runs in their last 3 games and 4 or more runs in 5 of their last 10 games. The Marlins have won 4 of their last 5 games when scoring 4 or more runs. Miguel Rojas leads the Marlins with 107 hits and 35 RBI, while Garrett Cooper and Joey Wendle have combined for 191 hits and 81 RBI. Edward Cabrera gets the ball, and he is 6-3 with a 2.91 ERA and 67 strikeouts this season. Cabrera is 1-0 with a 2.92 ERA and 6 strikeouts in his career against the Nationals.
The Nationals are 2-6 in their last 8 Sunday games and 23-50 in their last 73 overall. The Marlins are 9-26 in their last 35 home games and 15-37 in their last 52 overall. The under is 4-0-2 in Nationals last 6 overall. The over is 3-1-1 in Marlins last 5 home games. The Nationals are 7-20 in the last 27 meetings.
Anibal Sanchez has been solid this month, and he's actually been better on the road than at home, but he's simply not a pitcher I'm thrilled to get behind. Also, the Washington Nationals continue to pile up the losses and look like a team ready for the season to end. Edward Cabrera is a young, talented pitcher who is starting to find his form, and he's allowed just 15 runs in his last 49.1 innings. The Miami Marlins have a clear edge on the mound here, and they've shown signs of life this week. It's Marlins or pass for me.
