The San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies face off on Sunday in an MLB showdown at Coors Field. The Rockies have won the first two games of this series, and the pitching has been good.
The San Francisco Giants come into this game with a 59-61 record overall and with these games being at Coors Field the offense just hasn’t been good enough to win these games. Overall the Giants are averaging 4.48 runs per game which is 12th in the league. In this game, the Giants need the offense to be a lot better.
On the other side of this matchup is the Rockies who sit with a 53-69 record overall and they had lost three games in a row before winning the last two games. During the three-game losing streak, the Rockies offense was awful. The biggest issue all season has been the pitching and they are giving up 5.42 runs per game which is 29th in the league. C.J. Cron has hit 23 home runs and driven in 80 RBIs.
On the mound for the Giants is Jakob Junis who sits with a 4-3 record and an ERA of 3.53. In his last start against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he went seven innings giving up four hits and one run.
On the mound for the Rockies is Kyle Freeland who sits with a 7-8 record and an ERA of 4.82. In his last start against the St. Louis Cardinals, he went six innings giving up seven hits and three runs.
The Giants are 5-1 in their last six games on Sunday. The Rockies are 0-5 in their last five games on Sunday. The under is 4-0-1 in the Giants last five games overall. Rockies are 0-5 in their last 5 games against a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
The Giants have struggled in the first couple of games, but I think that changes here. Freeland hasn’t been exactly lights out this year, and Junis is coming off a start where he gave up only one run. I expect another strong start from Junis, and San Francisco is going to take one game from this series.
