The Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres face off on Thursday in an MLB showdown at Petco Park.
The Nationals sit with a 39-80 record overall but it’s really not all that surprising with the team thye are putting on the field every night. On Wednesday the Nationals offense only scored two runs and that led to the defeat. The Nationals pitching overall has been an issue and they are giving up 5.56 runs per game. Nelson Cruz has hit nine home runs and driven in 58 RBIs.
On the other side of this matchup is the Padres who sit with a 66-54 record overall and in the last game against the Maimi Marlins they scored 10 runs and that led to the victory. The Padres had lost two games in a row before winning on Wednesday. The Padres offense has been inconsistent since the trade deadline, so it was good to see the 10 runs on Wednesday. Manny Machado has hit 21 home runs and driven in 73 RBIs.
On the mound for the Nationals will be Anibal Sanchez who sits with an 0-5 record and an ERA of 7.20. In his last start against the Padres, he went five innings giving up six hits and three runs.
On the mound for the Padres will be Yu Darvish who sits with a 10-6 and an ERA of 3.40. In his last start against the Nationals, he went six innings giving up seven hits and four runs.
The Padres are 7-0 in their last seven home games against a right-handed starter. The Nationals are 0-7 in Sanchez’s last seven road starts. The over is 4-0-1 in the Nationals' last five during game 1 of a series.
Anibal Sanchez has been awful and the Nationals have lost his last seven road starts. Yu Darvish is coming off a start where he struggled, but his ERA is still low, and the Nationals have one of the worst offenses in baseball. The Padres will give Darvish some run support and will win -2.5. If you are fine laying a little juice the -1.5 makes sense.
